Goehring Scores Twice as Falcons Tie With Clayton State

MORROW, Ga. – Montevallo women's soccer tied Clayton State, 2-2, on the road in the final road game of the 2024 season.

Montevallo came out on the attack early with Morgan Goehring firing a shot just seven minutes into the contest. Just three minutes later, Raylene Alcaraz saw a golden scoring opportunity but sailed the crossbar for a Clayton State goal kick. Graduate goalkeeper Emily Hounsell went to work in the 24th minute with their first of six saves on the day before adding a second just over two minutes later. Sophomore Isabel Dillehay recorded Montevallo's first shot on goal in the 28th minute before Goehring added her first shot on goal of the day in the 29th minute. The Falcons kept the Lakers off the board with a team save in the 38th minute to head into the half in a 0-0 stalemate.

Just two minutes into the second half, Shadia Valenzuela was denied a header goal by the crossbar to keep the game scoreless. In the span of four minutes, Hounsell was forced to make three-straight saves before a second team save in the 57th minute from the Montevallo defense held off the Clayton State attack. Valenzuela added another UM shot on goal with a right-foot strike in the 59th minute but was denied by the CSU keeper. Goehring finally broke the stalemate in the 70th minute on a header with Rilee Bradbury credited with the assist as the Falcons took a 1-0 lead. Just three minutes later, Goehring scored her second goal of the afternoon on a penalty kick to go up 2-0 with 17 minutes left. In the final ten minutes, Clayton State scored back-to-back goals to steal a draw from the Falcons.
