MORROW, Ga. – Montevallo women's soccer tied Clayton State, 2-2, on the road in the final road game of the 2024 season.
Montevallo came out on the attack early with
Morgan Goehring firing a shot just seven minutes into the contest. Just three minutes later,
Raylene Alcaraz saw a golden scoring opportunity but sailed the crossbar for a Clayton State goal kick. Graduate goalkeeper
Emily Hounsell went to work in the 24
th minute with their first of six saves on the day before adding a second just over two minutes later. Sophomore
Isabel Dillehay recorded Montevallo's first shot on goal in the 28
th minute before Goehring added her first shot on goal of the day in the 29
th minute. The Falcons kept the Lakers off the board with a team save in the 38
th minute to head into the half in a 0-0 stalemate.
Just two minutes into the second half,
Shadia Valenzuela was denied a header goal by the crossbar to keep the game scoreless. In the span of four minutes, Hounsell was forced to make three-straight saves before a second team save in the 57
th minute from the Montevallo defense held off the Clayton State attack. Valenzuela added another UM shot on goal with a right-foot strike in the 59
th minute but was denied by the CSU keeper. Goehring finally broke the stalemate in the 70
th minute on a header with
Rilee Bradbury credited with the assist as the Falcons took a 1-0 lead. Just three minutes later, Goehring scored her second goal of the afternoon on a penalty kick to go up 2-0 with 17 minutes left. In the final ten minutes, Clayton State scored back-to-back goals to steal a draw from the Falcons.

- Montevallo's defense added a season-high two team saves to set a season-high eight saves on the day.
- Clayton State's two goals are the most Montevallo has allowed in a single game since the 6-2 win over AUM on Sept. 18, ending a streak of 11 games with one or fewer goals allowed.
