MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo men's basketball earned its second-consecutive victory on Monday night with an 83-69 win over Point to move to 3-1 overall.
Both sides got out to hot shooting starts in the first four minutes with Montevallo leading 12-5 at the first media timeout with a pair of threes from Brandon Fussell and Tyson Sexton. The Falcons opened a 13-point lead over the next five minutes with a 9-0 run highlighted three points from senior center Aidan Gardiner to give Montevallo a 21-8 lead with 10:45 left in the first. Derek Moore got into the scorebook with a triple at the 9:27 mark to continue the Falcons; run. Point eventually snapped the run but not before Montevallo took a double-digit lead. A flurry of threes from the Skyhawks trimmed Montevallo's lead down to 24-17 with 7:21 to play. Camden Andrews ended the run, but Point wouldn't go away, trimming Montevallo's advantage to 1 at the 5:30 mark before taking the lead for the first time at 27-26 with five minutes left in the half. In those final minutes, Curry scored eight of the Falcons' 15 points to give Montevallo a 41-32 lead heading into the break.
Montevallo struck first in the second half with an Andrews runner to open an 11-point lead. At the 17-minute mark, Point trailed by eight in the last moment Montevallo held a single digit lead. A Jay Gillispie free-throw at the 16:37 gave the Falcons a 10-point lead that they would not relinquish for the rest of the game. The two sides traded triples over the next four minutes before Reese Gurner's corner three opened Montevallo's largest lead of the night at 57-42 with 13:47 to play. Curry added four-straight Montevallo points with 11:15 left to keep the Falcons out in front by 15. Gillispie's free-throw shooting continued to be a difference maker, giving Montevallo a 19-point advantage with 7:45 left. Fussell gave Montevallo a 21-point advantage down the stretch with a jumper that left Point trailing 81-62 with 2:40 to play. The Falcons would hold the lead for the final three minutes to take an 83-69 win at home.

· The Falcons also won the turnover battle with just 10 giveaways to 21 from the Skyhawks.
