Falcons Face Fifth Seeded Lee in First Round of GSC Tournament

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo volleyball team is set to take on the fifth-seeded Lee Flames in the first round of the Gulf South Conference Tournament on Tuesday, Nov. 19 in Cleveland, Tenn.
 
Last Time Out
The Falcons are coming off a weekend where they went 1-1 against Auburn Montgomery and Alabama-Huntsville. UM punched their ticket into the GSC Tournament with their victory over the Warhawks in four sets. Katie Wilkerson shined with a 15-kill performance while she had her highest hitting percentage of the season at .444.

About Montevallo
The Falcons are looking to make it two years in a row where they have won a playoff game under Head Coach Haven O'Quinn, as they picked up a win against Valdosta State last season. Montevallo has had a playoff win in every year since 2017. The team has split their last four matches with wins against Christian Brothers and Auburn Montgomery, and losses to Alabama-Huntsville and Union.
 
Ava Wind has been a main stay for the Falcons as she has the third most digs in the Gulf South with 457. Wind leads Montevallo with 39 service aces and she has over 100 assists this season. Ellise Hanson has impressed at net at she had 10 total blocks last week. Hanson had a career-high against Alabama-Huntsville with six blocks.
 
Montevallo leads the all-time series 11-6. Lee defeated the Falcons on Oct. 25 in four sets. The Falcons are 5-2 against the Flames and UM defeated LU in Paul Dana Walker Arena this season on Sept. 28.
 
Scouting Lee
The Flames come into the first round of the GSC Tournament 1-3 in their last four matches including losses to Trevecca Nazarene, Auburn Montgomery and West Florida. They won their most previous match against Valdosta State where they downed the Blazers in four sets.
 
Sara Palumbo leads the Flames and is fourth in the conference with 333 kills this season. Palumbo adds 45 aces, fourth in the GSC. Izzy Denton leads the team with an even 50 aces with is the second most in the GSC. As a team, they ended the regular season with the most team kills in the conference with 1482.
