MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men's basketball team saw their three-game winning streak snapped by Cumberland University on Sunday, Nov. 24 inside Central State Bank Arena.
The Phoenix came out of the gates hot as they drained their first three out of four buckets for a 6-0 lead. A layup by

Derek Moore ended the run. The Falcons struggled as Cumberland went on a 10-0 run until a timeout by Montevallo. Out of the UM timeout, Fussell and Moore hit two three-pointers to cut the deficit to nine. After a layup by the Phoenix, Cumberland would hold a double-digit lead for the rest of the first half. Montevallo would put up 29 points in the first half, their lowest in any half in a game this season.
Jaylen Currey got the Falcons going in the second half with two layups to bring UM within single-digits. Curry would then bury his lone three ball of the night to keep the Falcons within striking distance.
Cole Maddox hit a three at the 13:54 mark then followed by two made free-throw by Curry cut the Phoenix deficit to eight. At the eight-minute mark, UM would go cold from the floor as they didn't score again until 4:36 on the clock, Cumberland would go on a 7-0 run during that span. The Phoenix would hold on for the win by shooting 65 percent from the floor in the second half while holding Montevallo to a season-low 63 points.
