MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Montevallo moves to 11-9 in conference play after an 18-point route of Christian Brothers highlighted by the second double-double of
Ramie Reid's career.
The Falcons struck first with a
Leisha Steger bucket on the left block before
Marisa Snodgrass nailed a three from the corner to send the Falcons up 5-0 early. CBU ended the early run but freshman
Cali Smallwood found space at the top of the key for her first triple of the evening. Montevallo continued its hot start with another wide open three this time from Steger to go up 11-2 with 5:22 to play.
Savannah Cook scored the first of her 11 first quarter points at the 4:07 mark before the sophomore tallied nine-straight points for Montevallo in the final 1:17 to send the game into the second with a 26-4 Falcon advantage.
Freshman forward
Ramie Reid got in on the action with her first bucket of the game on a spin move in the paint at the 9:18 mark of the second. Following a pair of Falcon free throws, the Lady Bucs went on a 6-0 run to cut Montevallo's lead to 30-11 with 5:29 to play in the half. Smallwood crossed double digits in scoring with another long-range jumper to end the CBU run. Reid tallied back-to-back put-backs in consecutive Falcon possessions for her fifth rebound and eighth point of the half. The Lady Bucs ended the half with a three pointer in the closing seconds to head into the locker room with Montevallo ahead 40-20.
The Falcons came out of the half flat-footed with just 11 total points in the third quarter.
Lia Edwards made the first bucket of the second half at the 9:02 mark. CBU added back-to-back buckets before Steger ended a near three-minute scoring drought with 6:23 to play. Moments later,
Isabel Grimes got into the scoring column with a three off a Smallwood offensive board. The Falcons went cold again before Snodgrass knocked down a floater in the lane to give the Falcons a 48-27 lead with 3:04 to play. Cook finished at the rim on a give-and-go with Reid to put the Falcons up by 21. CBU ended the third with four quick points to head to the fourth with Montevallo in front, 51-34.
The two sides traded jumpers to start the fourth quarter until Snodgrass nailed a triple from the left wing at the 7:42 mark. Just over a minute later, Grimes found a running Reid on the break for another Reid bucket and a 59-40 Montevallo lead. Reid added another bucket in the paint on the next Falcon possession. With a perfect trip to the stripe, Reid scored six of the Falcons' nine points on a 9-2 Montevallo run. A CBU triple ended the Falcons run with 4:05 to go. Cook added her fourth three of the night to give Montevallo a 23-point advantage with 3:40 left. The Lady Bucs ended the game on a 10-3 run but the Falcons came out on top, 72-54.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST | Montevallo was on fire in the first ten minutes with a 10-for-16 shooting clip and a 6-of-8 mark from long range. The Falcons outscored CBU 26-4 in the opening quarter with
Savannah Cook scoring 11 in the first.
2ND | The Falcons' offense slowed a bit in the second quarter with a 38.5 percent shooting mark with just a 1-for-5 mark from three. Freshman duo
Ramie Reid and
Cali Smallwood led the Falcons with six points each in the second.
3RD | Scoring was hard to come by in the third quarter with Montevallo scoring just 11 points on 28-percent shooting. The Falcons defense kept the Lady Bucs from sparking a comeback, holding CBU to just 5-for-14 in the quarter.
4TH | Montevallo regained its rhythm in the fourth with a 6-for-11 mark from the field for a total of 21 points in the final ten minutes. Montevallo added 13 more bench points en route to the road win.
GAME NOTES
- From the first points to the final buzzer, Montevallo lead for the entire game with the lone tie coming at 0-0 to start the game.
- Montevallo cleaned up the glass with a 45-32 rebounding advantage with the Falcons grabbing 13 offensive boards.
- The Falcons' 46.3-percent shooting mark is the highest in a single game this season and the highest since a Nov. 11 win over Nova Southeastern.
- For the second time this season, Ramie Reid recorded a double-double with 15 points on a perfect 6-for-6 shooting to go along with a game-high 12 rebounds.
- Savannah Cook led Montevallo with 16 points on 4of-5 shooting from beyond the arc.
