MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo baseball team defeated No. 22/23 Northwood, 11-5 in come-from-behind fashion, Saturday, in Montevallo, Alabama.
After falling behind 4-0, the Falcons scored five unanswered runs to take the lead and then added six more to break a 5-5 tie, winning 11-5 for the seventh consecutive victory.
Down 4-0, shortstop
Ethan Huddleston jacked his second homer of the year, a solo shot to right field, to open the scoring for the Falcons.
Montevallo piggy-backed off Huddleston's homer in the fifth and added four more runs in the sixth. Following a lead-off double from
Logan Harbin,
Khalil Bell delivered an RBI single down the right-field line to trim the deficit to 4-2. Next,
Ethan Huddleston doubled on a long fly ball to left field to score Bell. The Falcons tied the game when
Evan Liddie reached on an error and
Daniel Irizarry scored. In the next at-bat,
Zen Hiatt grounded into a fielder's coach which scored Huddleston to give UM a 5-4 lead.
Northwood grabbed a run back in the top of the seventh with a bases-loaded groundout to even the score 5-5.
UM answered back in the bottom half of the seventh with its biggest scoring frame of the day. It began with a two-run bomb to right field for
Logan Harbin to break the tie, 7-5. A fielder's-choice RBI from Irizarry made it 8-5 before
Wyatt Cunningham doubled down the right field line to clear the bases, extending the lead to 10-5.
Reliever
Connor Phelan returned for his second inning of work in the eighth held the Timberwolves off the board.
Sophomore
Christian Kallaher added an insurance run for the Falcons in the eighth with his fourth homer of the year to make it 11-5.
In the ninth, Phelan struck out the side to earn the win on the mound and secure the 11-5 victory.

- Ethan Huddleston went 2-for-3 from the plate with two RBI and a team-high three runs scored. He knocked his second homer of the year and added a double.
- Logan Harbin finished 2-for-4 from the plate with two RBI as he hit his first homer of the season.
- Wyatt Cunningham also added two RBI with his bases-clearing double as he went 1-for-1 from the plate.
- The bullpen shined in the win as Zach Wyatt threw two innings, allowed one run, and struck out two, and Connor Phelan notched 2.2 scoreless frames and struck out four for his first win of the year.
- Logan Samuels earned the start and went four innings with five K's but allowed four runs.
- The win was Head Coach Chandler Roses' 350 victory at Montevallo.
