MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo men's lacrosse eclipsed 50 wins in the program's history after defeating Tusculum in a 26-8 victory on Sunday afternoon.
The Falcons took control early with an unassisted goal from freshman
Anthony Coviello just over a minute into the contest. Sophomore
Matthew Boas added a second Falcon goal just three minutes later. Montevallo added three more goals in just over a minute with
Morgan Trites,
Jackson Klewchuk and
Jake Travis getting into the scoring column. Tusculum ended Montevallo's 5-0 scoring run at the 5:15 mark of the first before Boas added his second of the day to give the Falcons a 6-1 lead. Newcomer
William Angus scored his first goal in a Montevallo uniform wih 3:54 on the clock. Boas found the mark for the third time in the first quarter to send the game into the second with an 8-1 Montevallo advantage.
Senior
Jackson Klewchuk extended the Falcons' lead early in the second before
Max Citrano scored his first of the season on a pass from
Trevayne Hunter with 12:49 to play. Hunter found the back of the net following another Montevallo faceoff win just over a minute later. The Falcons went up 12-1 following
Nick Givens first goal of 2024 before Hunter added his second goal in the second quarter with 8:19 to play. Montevallo scored three goals in quick succession with Boas, Trites and
Ben Boldt all scoring in a 43-second span. The Pioneers scored a pair of man-up goals late in the second before
Adam Bryant found a goal with less than a minute on the clock. Egorshin ended the half with his fourth save of the day to head into the locker room with a 17-3 lead.
Freshman
John Hampton scored his first career goal with Boas notching the assist at the 14:00 mark of the third quarter. Tusculum found another goal with 11:25 to play in the third. The Falcons went on another three-goal tear that was sparked by a man-up goal from Klewchuk followed by goals from
Gerry York and
Brett Bilodeau to put Montevallo on top 21-4. The Pioneers scored two unanswered before
Samuel Martin found his first of the season with 3:33 to play.
Tusculum opened the quarter with an early goal to trim Montevallo's lead down to 22-7 with 14:00 left on the clock. Bilodeau added his second of the game on an unassisted effort with 9:43 to play. For the third time, Montevallo scored a trio of quick goals with Trites scoring on a man-up chance with
Olin Burns and
Bryce Pegram following soon after. Tusculum added the final goal of the game with 4:08 to play before the Falcons took a 26-8 win to move to 50 wins all-time.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST | The Falcons went 8-for-10 on faceoffs in the first quarter while Tusculum won just two. Montevallo outshot the Pioneers 18-6 in the opening 15 minutes.
2ND | The Falcons mirrored its shooting from the first with another 18-6 advantage. Montevallo tied a season-high nine goals in the second quarter.
3RD | Montevallo went a perfect 6-for-6 in third-quarter clears while taking a 20-14 advantage in ground balls. The Falcons scored five goals to just three from the Pioneers.
4TH | Montevallo's attack slowed in the final quarter with just 13 shots while
Carson Brown tallying five saves in the final 15 minutes.
GAME NOTES
- Montevallo was dominant on the faceoffs with a 32-6 advantage while being near-perfect with a 24-for-28 mark on clears.
- The Falcons' 26 goal effort is tied for the fourth-most goals scored in a single game and the third time it happened in the last two seasons.
- Montevallo recorded an impressive 66 total shots on the day with 43 shots on target.
- Matthew Boas, Jackson Klewchuk and Morgan Trites led the Falcons with three goals each while Boas and Trevayne Hunter led the team with six points.
- Montevallo's Gerry York was unstoppable on the faceoffs with a 15-for-17 mark to go along with 10 ground balls and a goal.
