MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo men's lacrosse moved to 3-1 after defeating Mars Hill 16-6 on Friday afternoon.
Montevallo struck first in the opening 30 seconds with freshman attacker
Anthony Coviello finding the back of the net to give Montevallo an early 1-0 lead. Mars Hill evened the score with a goal at the 11:52 mark before Montevallo's leading goal-scorer
Matthew Boas regained UM's lead at the 9:47 mark. The Lions took advantage of a Montevallo penalty to tie the game at two apiece with just over seven minutes left in the first. Montevallo freshman
William Angus broke the tied before another MHU man-up goal tied the game yet again. Montevallo scored two unanswered man-up goals in the final two minutes off the sticks of
Jackson Klewchuk and
Morgan Trites.
The two defenses stood tall in the first six minutes of the second quarter with two saves from Alex Egorsin before
Caden Chalut scored on an unassisted effort with 8:50 to play. Mars Hill trimmed Montevallo's lead down to 6-4 with 7:26 on the clock before
Jacob Obee scored his third goal of the season. Both sides were held scoreless in the final six minutes of the second to send the game to the half with a 7-4 Montevallo advantage.
Out of the half, Montevallo took a 9-4 lead with back-to-back goals from
Ryan Andrews and
Jackson Klewchuk in a ten-second span. Over the next nine minutes,
Alex Egorshin tallied four saves before Andrews' second goal of the quarter lifted the Falcons to a six-goal lead. A final save from Egorshin ended the third with Montevallo leading 10-4.
Graduate student
Trevayne Hunter opened the fourth quarter scoring at the 12:59 mark before Mars Hill added a goal just five seconds later. Moments later,
Luke Hennebaul scored his second goal of the season with the long stick to give Montevallo a 12-5 with 10:41 to play. Mars Hill scored its final goal of the night with 7:19 to go before Obee and Trites scored back-to-back Falcon goals just 33 seconds apart.
Zach Reed's first goal of the season came with 2:26 on the clock before Klewchuk put the punctuation mark on Montevallo's win with less than a minute to play.

Alex Egorshin made six saves for the Falcons.
3RD | Montevallo's defense shutout the Lions in the third quarter with five saves from Egorshin while
Ryan Andrews scored a pair of goals.
4TH | Montevallo added six goals in the final quarter to wipe out any chance of a Mars Hill comeback effort. The Falcons took a 13-11 advantage in fourth-quarter shooting while Egorshin added another five saves to his ledger.
GAME NOTES
- Luke Hennebaul set two season highs with five ground balls and five caused turnover in his Player of the Game campaign.
- Offensively, Montevallo was led by three goals and three assists from Jackson Klewchuk while Trevayne Hunter added three more assists and a goal.
