DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Montevallo men's lacrosse dropped a road matchup with Embry-Riddle, 15-9, on a rainy Thursday night in Florida.
Montevallo jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after
Morgan Trites found the back of the net with 13:21 left in the first quarter before Embry-Riddle tied the game on a man-up opportunity just a few minutes later. ERAU took its first lead of the day with 7:10 left in the quarter before adding a third unanswered goal with 6:03 to play. Montevallo looked to break the run with an
Anthony Coviello shot that was turned aside at the 5:35 mark. Another man-up goal from the Eagles left Montevallo in a 4-1 with 4:12 to play. After a fifth first-quarter faceoff win from Montevallo,
Trevayne Hunter scored his sixth goal of the season to send the game to the second quarter with Montevallo trailing 4-2.
Embry-Riddle struck first in the second quarter in transition after saving a shot from Coviello. With the Falcons on a man-up opportunity,
Jackson Klewchuk made the Eagles pay with his first goal of the night to cut the lead down to 5-3. Montevallo's
Brandon Shaffner took a faceoff win and followed it up with Montevallo's fourth goal of the night just 14 seconds after Klewchuk's goal. ERAU took a 6-4 lead with another goal off a Montevallo turnover before adding another goal in the same situation. For the second time of the game, ERAU scored three unanswered goals to take an 8-4 lead. Montevallo's
Jacob Obee scored a wide-open goal in transition before Trites added his second of the night with 4:10 on the clock. ERAU ended the first-half scoring with a goal off Montevallo's 12
th turnover of the half.
Out of the half, Embry-Riddle found a goal on the first possession of the third quarter to take a 10-6 lead with 13:26 on the clock. Moments later, Egorshin tallied his 11
th save of the night before Embry-Riddle found its 11
th goal of the game with at the 9:57 mark. The Eagles then went on to score two goals in 15 seconds to leave Montevallo in a 13-6 hole with 4:06 left in the third. Embry-Riddle ended the quarter with a final goal with just 33 seconds left to take a 14-6 lead into the fourth.
With 12:13 on the clock, Hunter scored Montevallo's first second half goal to trim ERAU's lead down to seven. Following a
Matthew Boas shot that was saved, ERAU stretched its lead back to eight with 10:05 to go. Coviello's third goal of the season cut the lead down to 15-8. Just over two minutes later, Hunter's third goal of the night boated Montevallo to nine goals on the night. The Falcons took just one shot in the final five minutes of the game to eventually fall to Embry-Riddle 15-9.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1st | Montevallo fell behind 4-2 after the first quarter despite outshooting ERAU 14-10 in the first 10 minutes. Montevallo's three first-quarter penalties resulted in a pair of ERAU man-up goals.
2nd | The Falcons struggled to handle the ball in the second quarter with eight turnovers to just two from the Eagles. Despite going 10-for-10 on faceoffs, the Falcons found themselves trailing 9-6 at the half.
3rd | Montevallo was held scoreless in the third quarter with ERAU taking a 15-9 advantage in shots. A 5-0 goal differential in the third left Montevallo trailing 14-6 heading to the fourth.
4th | For the first time during the game, Montevallo outscored ERAU 3-1 in the final quarter but six more turnovers left the Falcons with a second loss on the season.
