MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo baseball team turned in a pair of dominant performances Saturday to win the series over Christian Brothers, 2-1.
UM swept the doubleheader with a 16-4 win in game one and a 9-2 victory in game two.
Logan Harbin led UM as he went a perfect 3-for-3 from the plate in the 16-4 win with five RBI, three runs scored, two walks, a double, and a grand slam.
In game two,
Logan Samuels was lights out as he pitched 5.0 innings, struck out 10 and gave up just one earned run.

Montevallo responded to Friday's loss with a dominant 16-4 win to begin the Saturday slate. The scoring opened early as CBU's Royal Hobson led off the game with a home run. In the bottom of the first Montevallo's offense got going and scored two runs on a two-RBI single from
Zen Hiatt to take a 2-1 lead.
CBU's offense stayed hot in the second inning with three more runs to lead 4-2, but UM answered back again in the bottom half of the inning. Huddleston led off the frame with a solo homer. Following a double from
Wyatt Cunningham,
Evan Liddie reached on an error that scored Cunningham to even the score 4-4. A ground-out RBI from
Connor Crowson scored Liddie and pushed UM ahead 5-4.
Starter
Gino Cozzi returned to the mound for his third inning of work and halted the Bucs' bats. Cozzi went three up, three down in the third with two K's which began what would be four straight scoreless innings for CBU.
UM was held off the board in the third but exploded for five in the fourth. Crowson drove in his second run of the day, this time on a sacrifice fly before
Logan Harbin singled through the left side to add another run. With two on,
Zen Hiatt knocked a three-run homer to right field to break the game open 10-4.
After a scoreless fifth for both sides,
Khalil Bell doubled in a pinch-hit at-bat to drive in Harbin and push UM ahead 11-4.
Montevallo forced an early end to game one in the bottom of the seventh inning with another five spot. First,
Payton Stephenson drove in Cunningham in a pinch-hit at-bat before Harbin crushed a grand slam to left field to give UM the 16-14 lead.
GAME NOTES
- Gino Cozzi earned his team-leading third win on the mound as he went 6.1 innings with seven K's and allowed just four hits and three earned runs.
- Logan Harbin led UM from the plate as he went 3-for-3 with five RBI, three runs scored, two walks, a double and a grand slam.
- Zen Hiatt joined Harbin with five RBI on the day as he went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer and a two-RBI single.
- Evan Liddie tied Harbin for the team lead in runs with three as he registered two hits and reached base three times.
- Despite finishing 0-for-2, Connor Crowson drove in two runs on a ground out and a sacrifice fly.
- In his first start of the year, Wyatt Cunningham went 2-for-4 with a double and scored twice. He stole a base.
- Ethan Huddleston hit a solo homer and finished 1-for-4.
- Kaden Heatherly pitched the final two-thirds innings in relief and struck out one.
- Montevallo finished with 16 runs on 13 hits for the most runs scored of the season.
- CBU scored four runs on four hits.

In game two, both offenses were quiet until the third inning. UM's starter,
Logan Samuels went three-up three down in the first inning with two K's and struck out the side in the second. In the top of the third, Samuels struck out his sixth consecutive batter before giving up his first hit of the day. Following a UM error, CBU's Royal Hobson singled through the left side to push the Bucs ahead 1-0.
The Falcons responded with six runs in the bottom of the third that began with a two-out hit-by-pitch to
Connor Crowson. With the bases loaded, Harbin drew a walk and pushed in a run to even the score 1-1. Next,
Zen Hiatt picked up where he left off from the first game and singled to right field to score two runs and give Montevallo the 4-1 advantage. To round out the frame,
Ethan Huddleston doubled to right to make it 6-1.
Samuels struck out three more in the fourth but allowed a run to score. In the bottom of the fourth, a single through the left side for
Luke Mitchell gave UM a 7-2 lead.
In his final inning, Samuels added his 10
th K and held CBU off the board in the fifth.
Huddleston continued his success at the plate as he led off the bottom of the fifth with a solo homer for his second of the day to push the lead to 8-2.
The Falcons continued to rack up hits and baserunners in the sixth inning and scored their ninth run of the game on a sacrifice fly from
Brandon Moore.
Connor Phelan finished off the win on the mound for UM in the seventh, securing the 9-2 win.

- Connor Phelan pitched 1.1 innings in relief, gave up just two hits and didn't allow any runs.
