MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo baseball team dropped a midweek matchup to Georgia Southwestern, 10-2, Tuesday at Kermit A. Johnson Field and Bob Riesener Stadium.
As a team the Falcons collected seven hits, had 13 baserunners, but cashed in just twice and left 12 on base.
Georgia Southwestern jumped in front of the Falcons early, with three runs on four hits in the first. Montevallo starter
Seth Gurr settled down over the next four innings, pitching four scoreless frames with three strikeouts.
After five scoreless innings for either side, redshirt sophomore
Luke Mitchell crushed his first homer of the year, a two-run shot to left, to make it a one-run game, 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth.
The Falcons had a chance to even the score in the bottom of the seventh but left the bases loaded.
In the eighth, the Georgia Southwestern bats came alive with seven runs on seven hits to pull ahead 10-2. The Falcons left the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth for the second straight inning and couldn't get anything going in the ninth.
Tuesday's loss is just the second of the year at home for the Falcons who are 8-2 in Montevallo.

GAME NOTES
- Luke Mitchell drove in UM's only runs of the day with his first homer of the year as he finished 1-for-3 with two RBI.
- Evan Liddie turned in his team-leading seventh multi-hit game of the year as he went 2-for-4 from the plate and reached base three times.
- Ethan Huddleston extended his hit streak to six games with an infield single in the bottom of the eighth.
