MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo softball team takes both ends of their doubleheader against Christian Brothers University on Saturday, Feb. 24.
GAME ONE
After
Taylor Lloyd struck out the side in the top of the first, the Montevallo offense got things going with a two-run homer from
Bentlee Stiner, her first of the year. Lloyd continued to mow down Buccaneer hitters as she sat down the first 10 batters she saw.
Ariana Pinder got the bottom of the third started with a double to right and was then driven in by
Sydnee Reaves who hit her second home run of the season to put the Falcons up 4-0.
Christian Brothers was able to respond with a two-run homer of their own in the fourth. The Falcons got one of the runs back with an RBI ground out by
Ariana Pinder in the bottom half of the fourth. After both teams went 1-2-3 in the fifth, CBU scored two in the sixth via a home run and single that score a Buccaneer.
Down to their last out, Christian Brothers stunned the Falcons with back-to-back home runs to go on top 6-5. With a runner on second and one out,
Bentlee Stiner came through for the Falcons with a double down the right field line to tie the ballgame up and the winning run on second. Freshman
Kendall Channell had her biggest at bat as a Falcon and was able to lift a ball high over the left field wall to win the game for Montevallo and for her first collegiate walk-off.

GAME TWO
CBU started game two with bases loaded no out. Falcons starter,
Rachel Whiddon, did an excellent job of limiting the damage and only allowing the Bucs to score one.
Sydnee Reaves got the run back quickly with a solo shot, her third of the season to tie the game up. In the third inning, CBU would take a 2-1 lead with a solo homer.
In the bottom of the third, Montevallo would take advantage of pitches up in the zone with
Ariana Pinder and
Sydnee Reaves hitting back-to-back solo home runs to put the Falcons back in front.
Lily Stone would join the home run party as she launched her first big fly of the year to put Montevallo up 4-2.
In the fifth inning,
Molly Pendley would unload on a ball and knock her first home run of the year.
Sydnee Reaves would hit her third home run of the ballgame in the bottom half of the sixth and her fifth of the season. The Buccaneers would score two in the seventh but
Mya Young would come on in relief and get the final three outs of the ballgame.
Rachel Whiddon picked up her first win of the year and pitched nicely for the Falcons. Rachel pitched six solid innings while she scattered six hits and allowing four earned runs while she struck out two. Whiddon was forced to be removed from the game after taking a line drive off her knee in the seventh before giving way to
Mya Young.

GAME NOTES
- Sydnee Reaves is flaming hot as she is 7-for-10 out of her last 10 at bats and is now tied for sixth in the GSC with five homers. She is also tied for seventh with 16 RBI.
- Ariana Pinder continues to prove she one of the top hitters in the Gulf South as she is ninth in the conference with a .467 batting average. Pinder has eight RBI in her last six games.
- Pinder is ninth in the GSC with 21 hits.
- Bentlee Stiner now has a hit in 11 out of her 14 games this season.
- Molly Pendley has an RBI in six out of her last nine games played.
