Montevallo Opens 2024 Season With Two Wins On the Road

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Montevallo women's tennis began the spring season with a pair of dominant wins over Tuskegee in the opening match of 2024.
 
The Falcons gave up a total of four points in the trio of doubles matches. The day started off with a 6-3 win from Lieselotte Hartlohner and Klara Podskubkova in the No. 1 doubles match. No. 2 doubles featured a dominant 6-0 win from Greta Vagnini and Claire Jaramba while London Breedlove and Gabirella De Jesus earned a 6-1 win in the final doubles pairing.
 
Montevallo took all of the singles points with Jaramba winning No. 1 singles by a score of 6-4, 3-6, 10-8 with Hartlohner taking a 6-4, 6-1 win in No. 2 singles. No. 3 singles featured a 7-6, 6-3 win from Latizia Bojara while Breedlove added a 6-2, 6-3 win in No. 4 singles. Johanna Kullman recorded a 6-3, 6-2 win in No. 5 singles while Erika Freire notched a 6-2, 6-0 win in the final singles match of the first match.
 
Match two of the day saw Montevallo take a 6-0 win over the Golden Tigers after sweeping the doubles matches. Hartlohner and Podskubkova took the top doubles match 6-4 with Bojara and Kullman taking No. 2 doubles with a 6-1 win. No. 3 doubles saw De Jesus and Friere earn a 6-2 win to head into singles with a 1-0 lead.
 
The top two singles matches took some work from the Falcons with Jaramba needing three sets to take a 4-6, 7-5, 11-9 win in No. 1 singles. No. 2 singles fetured a 6-2, 3-6, 11-9 win from Bojara. Breedlove added a second win on the day, taking the No. 3 singles 7-6, 6-3. Kullman added a 6-2, 6-2 win in the No. 4 singles match while Friere earned a 6-0, 6-2 win in No. 5 singles. Vagnini did not get to finish her No. 5 singles match but led 6-4, 6-5 before the match was called.
 
The Falcons head to Montgomery on Tuesday, Feb. 13 for a match against Alabama State.
