Falcons Face Spring Hill Tuesday in Midweek Matchup

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo baseball resumes the 2024 season, Tuesday, with its first midweek matchup against Spring Hill, at 3 p.m., in Mobile, Alabama, following three losses to open the year.
 
Preseason ranked No. 24, Montevallo will look to bounce back against Spring Hill on Tuesday.
 
Senior right-handed pitcher Michael Morse will take the mound for UM in the midweek contest against the Badgers. The Windermere, Florida native will make his season debut. Last season, Morse was 3-2 and made 11 starts. He finished with 27 strikeouts.

So Far This Season…

The Falcons opened the year in Florida with a trio of losses in a single game against Embry-Riddle, 6-3, and a double-header against No. 2/15 Rollins, 6-4 and 12-3. After one weekend of the season, Embry-Riddle and Rollins are both ranked in the top-40 by Masseyrating.com.
 
The Falcons scored 10 runs on opening weekend but recorded just one extra-base hit. UM's pitching struck out a combined 30 batters but gave up six homers.

 
Scouting Spring Hill: 


Spring Hill welcomes Montevallo with a 1-2 record on the year following a season-opening series with Florida Tech. Spring Hill won the first game of the year 13-4 but dropped both games of a double-header with the Panthers, 4-3, and 2-3.
 
Spring Hill totaled four doubles and a solo homer in the 13-4 win over Florida Tech.
 
 
Series History Against Spring Hill:


Montevallo is 11-3 against the Badgers since 2016 and is on a three-game win streak in the series. Last year, Montevallo dropped the first meeting with Spring Hill 6-2, but won 18-8, 8-5 and 14-1 in the next three.
 
Player Highlights Montevallo:

Pitchers Adiel Melendez and Logan Samules both turned in promising outings despite allowing some runs. Melendez struck out eight against Rollins in four innings pitched while Samules totaled six K's through five and one third innings.
 
At the plate, freshman Daniel Irizarry was the biggest bright-spot for UM as he batted .375 (3-for-8) in two games played. He notched three singles and drove in three runs.
 
Christian Kallaher bated .333 on opening weekend and recorded the only extra-base hit for UM with a solo homer against Rollins.
 
Wyatt Cunningham and Logan Harbin each led Montevallo with two runs scored each.
 
Cunningham, Irizarry and Evan Liddie each have a stolen base on the year.
 
 
 
Player Highlights Spring Hill:
 
Ethan Valdez leads Spring Hill so far as he is batting .455 (5-of-11), with an RBI and a double.
 
Kai St. Germaine earned the win on the mound for the Badgers with five strikeouts through six innings pitched.
