Falcons Drop First Game Against Delta State

MONTEVALLO, Ala. –  The University of Montevallo softball team falls to Delta State 11-8 on Friday, Mar. 1 in Cleveland, Miss.
 
The Falcons got things started by getting the first two batters on with a single up the middle from Ariana Pinder and a walk drawn by Sydnee Reaves. Kendall Channell hit a ball up the middle that went off the shortstop's glove to score Pinder. Maddie Taylor then came up after and single to left to bring home Reaves.
 
In the second inning, Ariana Pinder hit her third homer of the season with a two-run shot over the right field wall. Delta State would claw back into it with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the second. The Lady Statesmen would take the lead in the third with a two-run double.
 
Montevallo would take the lead back with two outs as Bentlee Stiner got one just out of the reach of the shortstop to score both Ansley Hudson and Sydnee Reaves. DSU was able to tie the ballgame up with a run off an RBI single.
 
After a scoreless 1-2-3 inning thrown by Mya Young, Delta State scored five in the sixth with a home run to take the lead then DSU scored four on an RBI ground out with a couple of miscues from the Falcon defense.
 
Molly Pendley smacked a double in the seventh to score two to keep the Falcon hopes alive but two strikeouts thrown by Delta State would end the game.

  • Ariana Pinder blasted her third homer of the season to bring her RBI total for the season to 14.
  • Bentlee Stiner joins Pinder with 14 RBI as she picked up two in the game.
  • Lily Stone now has five games on the season with at least two RBI. Stone has eight RBI in her past five games.
  • Montevallo ends their win streak at five games.
