Softball Takes Series From Delta State With Two Wins on Saturday

MONTEVALLO, Ala. –  The University of Montevallo softball team sweeps Miles College after taking both ends of the double-header against the Golden Bears on Tuesday, Feb. 27.
 
GAME ONE
Montevallo started the game with a lead Ariana Pinder lead off with a four pitch walk and was then brought around with a ball that went through the third baseman's legs which went all the way to the outfield wall. Maddie Taylor knocked a double into the gap to score Kendall Channell but Taylor was thrown out trying to extend her double into a triple.
 
After Molly Pendley walked, Lily Stone lasered a double into the right center gap to bring Stone around to score. Stone then score after Delta State booted a ground ball. The Lady Statesmen got on board with a two-run homer in the bottom of the second. Delta State would connect on another ball that went over the fence for a three-run home run. Bentlee Stiner would smack a lead-off double and would then be brought home on a double-play ball.
 
Ariana Pinder would drive home Madison Fargo and Ansley Hudson with a single down the right field line to give the Falcons a 7-5 lead. Stiner would send a ball out of the park for her second homer of the season to put Montevallo up by four. Delta State would respond with three runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth. The Falcons scored one in the fifth with a sacrifice fly from Madison Fargo.
 
In the top of the sixth, Molly Pendley would launch a grand slam to dead center. Pendley now has two home runs this season. Olivia Bergert would bring two runners home with a triple to right center. Bergert would score on a bunt for a hit by Sydnee Reaves.

GAME TWO
Bentlee Stiner would keep the Falcon momentum going with a two-run shot to right center. Delta State would respond with a run on a squeeze play to come within one. Sydnee Reaves would pick up one of her five RBI in the game with a sacrifice fly to score Madison Fargo. Delta State would blast two homers in the bottom of the second to take a 5-3 lead over the Falcons.
 
Molly Pendley would continue her hot stretch with a solo shot in the third, her third of the season and second of the day. Montevallo would score another lone run in the fourth as Ariana Pinder would score with an error by the Lady Statesmen.
 
In the sixth inning, Sydnee Reaves would hit her first four bagger of the month with a three-run shot to give the falcons the lead. Kendall Channell would come across to score with a wild pitch by Delta State. Molly Pendley knocked her seventh hit and eighth RBI of the weekend with a double to center to score Fargo. Taylor Lloyd would close the game out with two scoreless innings.

  • Molly Pendley totaled seven hits, eighth RBI, four runs and two home runs against Delta State.
  • Taylor Lloyd would pick up her sixth win of the season as she is tied for third in the GSC.
  • Maddie Taylor recorded a multi-hit game with a double, a walk and one run scored.
  • Sydnee Reaves would knock her ninth homers of the season as she is now third in the conference.

The Falcons will look ahead to a midweek non-conference match up with Lee University on Tuesday, Mar. 5 for a double-header. First pitch scheduled for 12:00 p.m. CT.
