MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men's swimming's
Janek Barczyk,
Juan Celis,
Aleksei Kolesnikov and
Will Mahone are set to compete in the NCAA Division II National Championships on Tuesday, Mar. 12 in Geneva, OH.
Barczyk, the first freshman in program history to qualify for nationals, will compete in the 100-yard breaststroke on Friday, Mar. 15. He posted a school record time of 53.74 at the New South Intercollegiate Swim Conference championships to punch his ticket to nationals. Barczyk is the first Falcon to swim in the breaststroke at nationals.
For the second year in a row,
Will Mahone will swim in the 100 and 200-yard backstroke events which are scheduled for Friday, Mar. 15 for the 100-yard and Saturday, Mar. 16 for the 200-yard. At the NSISC championships, he would earn the title conference champion with times of 48.03 and 1:46.48. Last season, Mahone placed in eighth in the 200 and 16
th in the 100.
Aleksei Kolesnikov will make his NCAA debut as the first sophomore in program history to qualify for nationals. Kolesnikov earned his way with a time of 47.54 in the 100-yard fly at the NSISC championships. He is the first Falcon to swim in the butterfly at nationals.
Juan Celis will join the trio of Barczyk, Mahone and Kolesnikov in the 200 and 400 medley relays. Celis will swim the freestyle leg of the relays. He helped the relay team swim NCAA qualifying times of 1:28.45 in the 200 and 3:13.95 in the 400 at the New South Intercollegiate Swim Conference championships.
