Falcons Drop Tight Battle, 4-3, to Spring Hill

MONTEVALLO, Ala. –  In a midweek matchup against Spring Hill in Montevallo, Alabama, the University of Montevallo Baseball team narrowly fell, 4-3.

In what was a pitcher's duel for five innings, the long ball proved to be the difference over the final few frames.

Montevallo starter Seth Gurr threw five scoreless innings while Spring Hill's Evan Langston tossed four hitless innings and held UM off the board for four and two-thirds.

To lead off the fifth, Landon Leake broke up Langston's no-hitter with a single through the right side and advanced into scoring position on a wild pitch. A sacrifice fly for Christian Kallaher put the go-ahead run on third. With two outs, Connor Crowson recorded his team-leading 24th RBI of the year with a single up to the middle to score Leake and put Montevallo ahead 1-0.

After another scoreless outing by Gurr, reigning Gulf South Conference Player of the Week Logan Harbin crushed his fifth home run of the season, a solo shot to left center, pushing the lead to 2-0.

Spring Hill scraped across two unearned runs in the seventh following an error to even the Falcons, 2-2.

In the top of the eighth, Spring Hill took its first lead of the day, 3-2, on an RBI ground out.

With two outs in the bottom of the eighth, senior Brandon Moore jacked his first homer of the year to left center to tie the game 3-3.

Spring Hill's Seth Williams led off the ninth with a solo homer to lead 4-3.

Following two ground outs in the bottom of the ninth, Jackson Norris delivered a pinch-hit single to keep the game alive. A flyout ended the game in favor of the Badgers, 4-3.

Despite the loss, Seth Gurr threw one of his best games of the season with seven innings, no walks, two unearned runs and five strikeouts.
