Softball Earns Second Highest Ranked Win in Program History Against No. 8 Mississippi College

CLINTON, Miss. – The University of Montevallo softball team take the first game of today's doubleheader against No. 8 Mississippi College on Saturday, Mar. 16.

GAME ONE
The Falcons were able to behind a tremendous outing in the circle from sophomore Taylor Lloyd. Lloyd would toss her fifth complete game of the season with seven innings pitched and four strikeouts while only allowing one earned run and zero walks. The Soddy Daisy native now lowers her ERA to sub 3.00 with the third most innings pitched in the Gulf South Conference at 84.1 and is tied for the third most wins in the conference with nine.

Montevallo took the lead early with a Sydnee Reaves bomb to center for her 12th homer of the season. Reaves would come back around the next time through the lineup to cause more damage with a single to center to score Ansley Hudson. Kendall Channell came up later in the inning and reached on a single to second base which scored Ariana Pinder.

Adversity struck the Falcons in the bottom of the fifth where the Choctaws had the bases loaded with no outs. Taylor Lloyd induced a fly out to center that wasn't deep enough to score the runner on third for the first out. The next batter got a run home with a sacrifice fly to center for the RBI. The Falcons got out of the inning with a groundout to Olivia Bergert who tossed it to Pinder who tagged second for the force out.

MC made another run at the Falcons in the seventh but a strikeout by Lloyd and a fly out to center would end the game and the Choctaw threat. Montevallo would earn their second highest ranked win in program history by defeating the No. 8 Choctaws.
