MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo softball team defeats West Georgia in game one with a complete game in the circle from
Taylor Lloyd and home runs by
Ariana Pinder and
Sydnee Reaves. In game two, the Falcons walked off the Wolves with a grand-slam in the bottom of the eighth off the bat of
Sydnee Reaves.
GAME ONE
Taylor Lloyd started the game out strong with a scoreless first inning, then
Ariana Pinder and
Sydnee Reaves went back-to-back solo homers to put the Falcons up 2-0. Pinder went after the first pitch she saw and deposited it to straight center. Reaves hit her 10
th homer of the season with a no-doubt shot to right.
Madison Fargo would draw a bases loaded walk to scratch across a third run.
In the second inning, Pinder would come across to score on a wild pitch. The Wolves would break the scoreboard with a two-run shot to cut the West Georgia deficit in half. UWG would come within one as they Wolves doubled to bring a runner home but Montevallo would get out of the inning by cutting down the runner heading to third trying to stretch a double into a triple.
The Falcons would strike again as
Sydnee Reaves would double down the right field line to score Pinder and
Olivia Bergert. Montevallo would score another run in the inning on a wild pitch. Reaves would single in the sixth to score one more for the Falcons.
Taylor Lloyd would earn her seventh win of the season as she tossed her third complete of the season. Lloyd went seven innings, allowed six hits and three earned runs, and struck out five. She only allowed one walk.

GAME TWO
West Georgia took the lead early with a solo home run to center to go up 1-0 in the first. The tables turned in the bottom half as
Maddie Taylor doubled off the right field wall to score
Ariana Pinder and
Sydnee Reaves. The Wolves hit their second long ball of the game to tie it up at 2-2. In the third inning,
Kendall Channell singled to right in a 3-0 count to give the Falcons the lead.
Rachel Whiddon had a great outing as she shut down the Wolves in the third inning through the fifth as she allowed no runs during that stretch. Whiddon would end her night with seven innings pitched with five strikeouts.
West Georgia tied the game in the sixth as they scored on a Falcon miscue. UWG would take the lead in the seventh with a single that scored one. After a leadoff triple by
Sydnee Reaves,
Bentlee Stiner tied the ballgame with a triple to right center that scored Reaves. The Wolves pitching was stingy as the Falcons had three cracks to score Stiner from third but Montevallo was unable to cash in.
West Georgia would knock a three-run homer in the first frame of extra innings to take a 7-4 lead over the Falcons. Pinch hitter,
Ansley Hudson would get the Falcons going in the bottom of the eighth with a one out single to get a runner aboard. Next batter up,
Olivia Bergert, would draw a walk on a 3-2 count.
Ariana Pinder would sting a ball that the West Georgia shortstop was unable to handle.
Sydnee Reaves stepped to the plate with bases loaded, one out. The sophomore slugger would get a pitch over the middle of the plate and unload a liner over the right center wall to send the Falcons home happy.

- Sydnee Reaves is now fourth of Montevallo's career home run list with 24.
- Rachel Whiddon pitched a career-high seven innings in game two. Whiddon also tied a season-high in strikeouts.
- Bentlee Stiner and Maddie Taylor recorded multi-hit games. Taylor drove in two RBI.
- Mya Young picked up her fourth win of the season.
