MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo softball team takes the final game of the three-game series against Valdosta State in dominant fashion as they run-rule the Blazers 16-0 on Saturday, Mar. 30.
The Falcons snapped their nine-game losing streak behind the second cycle in program history from
Sydnee Reaves and a complete game shutout from
Taylor Lloyd. Montevallo got the scoring started after
Ariana Pinder reached via an error than advanced to second on a passed ball.
Sydnee Reaves drove her home with an RBI-double to the left field corner for the first run of the game. Reaves would also single to start the third inning.
Taylor Lloyd was pounding the zone early and was able to fire three scoring innings with a one run lead with she struck out four. UM exploded for a nine-run inning in the bottom of the third. The Falcons scored two runs on errors by the Blazers to go up 3-0. With two on, no out,
Molly Pendley broke the game open with a three-run homer to center field. Pendley now has five home runs on the season and pushed her RBI total to 21. Still in the bottom of the third, the Falcons would load the bases up for
Sydnee Reaves who roped a ball down the right field line for a bases clearing triple.
Bentlee Stiner would push another run across with a sacrifice fly to right to score Reaves.
Maddie Taylor got in on the action with a double that split the right center gap to score
Molly Pendley. After a hit by pitch and a walk,
Ariana Pinder singled up the middle to score Taylor. With bases loaded, Reaves would blast her 13 homer of the season for a grand slam and to complete the cycle. The cycle is second in Montevallo softball program history.
Taylor Lloyd would finish the game strong as she only allowed one base runner after the first inning. Lloyd is now over the 100-inning mark in the season and is one of three pitchers in the Gulf South Conference with 100 innings. The Soddy Daisy, TN. native has 92 strikeouts on the year and earned her 10
th victory in the circle this season.
