Harbin Collects Five Hits, Comeback Effort Falls Short at Columbus State

Box Score COLUMBUS. Ga. – In a midweek matchup on the road in Columbus, Georgia, Montevallo baseball's comeback effort fell short, 8-7, to Columbus State, Wednesday.

The Falcons fell behind 3-0 early to the Cougars after a three-spot in the fourth inning. In response, Logan Harbin and Jackson Norris each hit solo homers in the second to pull within one, 3-2. Between both teams combined, there were four homers in the first two innings.
 
 
Montevallo's offense found its rhythm with a trio of RBI singles in the third from Harbin, Norris and Ethan Huddleston, to pull ahead 5-3.
 
 
In the top of the fourth, Harbin continued his standout day from the plate with his third RBI, a single up the middle, to push UM's lead to 6-3.
 
 
Columbus State found life at the plate in the bottom of the fifth, scoring four runs on five hits to retake the lead, 7-6.
 
 
After two scoreless innings for both sides, CSU added to its lead with an RBI single to make it 8-6 in the eighth.
 
 
Harbin led off the ninth and notched his fifth hit to move to 5-for-5 on the day. Next up, Daniel Irizarry singled and Norris reached on an error to load the bases. With no outs and the bases juiced, the Falcons plated a run to make it 8-7, on an RBI double-play ball from Barry Eiseman. Montevallo left one on to end the game in the ninth.

GAME NOTES
 
  • Logan Harbin went 5-for-5 from the plate, drove in three runs and scored three runs with a double and a homer. He finished triple shy of the cycle.
  • Harbin is the second Falcon to go 5-for-5 this season, as Evan Liddie did so against Spring Hill. Harbin's performance tied for the second-most hits in a game in program history.
  • Jackson Norris was the only other Falcons with multiple hits as he went 2-for-5 with his first homer of the season and drove in two runs.
  • Seth Gurr struck out four through six innings.
     
UP NEXT

The Falcons will return to action on Saturday, Mar. 8, in a doubleheader against West Georgia beginning at 3 p.m. in Montevallo, Alabama.
