MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo men's lacrosse moved back into the win column with a 15-9 win over Young Harris on Friday afternoon.
The Falcons jumped out to an early lead with a pair of goals from
Zach Reed and
Trevayne Hunter in the opening 44 seconds. A few minutes later,
Jacob Obee forced a Young Harris turnover with a big hit at the midfield line that led to the sophomore's first goal of the day. With 8:46 on the clock, sophomore goalkeeper
Alex Egorshin tallied his first save of the day afer forcing a YHC shot high. Moments later, Egorshin's second save of the day led to a transition opportunity that finished with another Hunter goal at the 7:04 mark. Senior
Jackson Klewchuk found the back of the net with a bouncing shot to give Montevallo a 5-0 lead with just over five minutes left in the quarter. Young Harris ended the Falcons scoring run with 2:34 to play before
William Angus lifted the Falcons to a 6-1 lead. The first quarter ended with a YHC goal that sent the game to the second with a 6-2 Montevallo advantage.
Montevallo's
Matthew Boas tallied his first goal of the day just over 90 seconds into the second. The two attacks slowed down for the next ten minutes until Egorshin was forced to make his fifth save of the night with 6:10 on the clock. The fifth goal of the season from
Zach Laberge lifted the Falcons to an 8-2 lead with just under four minutes left in the half. The Mountain Lions scored two unanswered before Boas' second goal of the day gave the Falcons a 9-4 lead heading into the locker room.
Young Harris opened the second half with a second pair of unanswered goals to trim Montevallo's lead down to 9-6 at the 11:45 mark. The Falcons took five straight shots on the offensive end before Angus ended UM's scoring drought at the 5:14 mark with an unassisted effort. Boas gave the Falcons a five-goal advantage with a man-up goal before another Boas goal gave Montevallo a 12-6 lead with just over a minute to play. The Mountain Lions scored back-to-back goals in the final 33 seconds to trim the Falcons lead to 12-8 heading into the final stanza.
Another Klewchuk bouncer opened the fourth-quarter scoring with 12:19 on the clock. YHC added a ninth goal with 9:20 left before
Trevayne Hunter scored his third of the afternoon after picking up a loose ball to give Montevallo a 14-9 lead with just over seven minutes to play. Egorshin's tenth save of the day kept YHC off the board at the 6:40 mark before Hunter added a team-leading fourth goal at the 5:32 mark. With four save s in the final 4:29, Egorshin helped lead Montevallo to a 15-9 win over former conference foe Young Harris.

1st | The Falcons scored six goals on nine first-quarter shots with
Alex Egorshin stopping four YHC shot attempts in the opening 15 minutes. Montevallo dominated the faceoffs with an 8-1 advantage.
2nd | Montevallo's offense slowed in the second quarter with three goals on 7 shots while Young Harris added a pair of goals on six shots. Once again, Montevallo tallied a dominant 5-1 lead in faceoff wins.
3rd | UM's attack was firing on all cylinders with a 16-8 advantage in third quarter shots but found just three goals to YHC's four. Montevallo once again lost just one faceoff in the third quarter with a 7-1 advantage at the dot.
4th | The Falcons' defense kept YHC to just one goal in the fourth quarter while Hunter outscored the Mountain Lions with a pair of goals in the final 15 minutes.
