FAIRFIELD, Ala. – The University of Montevallo softball team notches two shutout wins against Miles College on Tuesday, Apr. 16. The Falcons are now finished with their midweek slates for the 2024 season.
GAME ONE
Taylor Lloyd was dominant yet again for the Falcons as she threw the second no-hitter in Montevallo softball program history. In the outing, Lloyd struck out 10 batters for the third time this season and recorded her fifth shutout. Lloyd now own the single-season shutout record for Montevallo and is now tied for the all-time record for shutouts in a career. The Soddy Daisy, TN native picked up her 13
th win of the season which is tied for first in a single-season and she earned her 20
th win of her career. She is now fifth in the GSC with 125 strikeouts.
The offense gave Lloyd the lead early as the Falcons struck together four straight hits to lead off the game.
Lily Stone drove two runs home with a double down the left field line that hit the bottom of the fence.
Molly Pendley hit her ninth double of the season to bring home two more Falcons in the first inning. Pendley would come home on an error by Miles then
Ariana Pinder would drive home a run with a sacrifice fly to center to end the scoring in the first.
Montevallo would pick up a run in the second with a sac-fly from
Molly Pendley.
Taylor Lloyd would strikeout the side in the bottom half. UM would scratch across another with a sacrifice fly from
Maddie Taylor to score
Skylar Johnson in the fourth inning. The Falcons would start the fifth by loading the bases with hits from
Ansley Hudson and
Sydnee Reaves while Pinder would reach on an error. Miles would commit an error causing two runners to score.
Lily Stone ripped a single to left to drive in Reaves to put the Falcons lead at 11-0. With two runners aboard,
Molly Pendley would touch them all with a home run to left center for her ninth homer of the year. Pinder would single to left to score
Maddie Taylor but the Golden Bears would cut a runner down heading to third to end the Falcons half of the inning.
With three outs left the go,
Taylor Lloyd looked her strongest as she dismantled the final hitters with two strikeouts and a routine ground out to short in route to the second no-hitter thrown by a Falcon in Montevallo softball history.

GAME TWO
Taylor Lloyd made sure she was a tough act to follow but
Mya Young answered the bell with her strongest outing as a Falcon as she went six scoreless innings of one hit ball as she walked one and struck out two. This was Young's sixth outing of the season where she allowed no earned runs.
The Falcons got Young an early lead as they struck in the first inning with a single up the middle from
Bentlee Stiner.
Sydnee Reaves would score as she reached via an error. Miles would pick up their lone hit of the afternoon with a single in the bottom part of the third inning.
Both offenses struggled to string hits together but
Bentlee Stiner would launch her seventh homer of the season in the sixth inning. The solo-homer would double the Falcon lead at 2-0.
Lily Stone followed Stiner with a double and come home with a single from
Kendall Channell. With two on, two out,
Olivia Bergert would pick up two RBI with a single to right to score
Molly Pendley and
Skylar Johnson.
Rachel Whiddon would come on in the seventh for her 22
nd appearance of the season and would slam the door on the Golden Bears with a scoreless inning where she allowed no runs, hits or walks. Whiddon would earn her seventh scoreless outing of the season.

- Taylor Lloyd tossed the second no-hitter in Montevallo softball history and ranks in the GSC as follows: 6th with 13 wins, 1st with 24 games started, tied for 5th with 11 complete games, tied for 1st with 5 shutouts, 3rd with 134.2 innings pitched, 5th with 125 strikeouts
- Sydnee Reaves had her 10th game this season with three or more hits.
- Bentlee Stiner had four hits today and picked up her 18th multi-hit game of the season. Stiner also hit her seventh homer of the season.
- Ariana Pinder had her 16th multi-hit game of the season. She is now tied for the single-season record with five sacrifice flies this season.
- With two hits in game two, Kendall Channell now has nine multi-hit games this season.
- Lily Stone had four hits today and now has three RBI in two out of her last six games played.
- Molly Pendley set a new career-high for RBI in a game with six and she hit her ninth home run of the year.
- Mya Young picked up her fifth win of the season and now has six scoreless outings on the season.
- Rachel Whiddon pitched her seventh inning this season where she has not allowed a run.

The Falcons have completed their non-conference schedule and will turn their attention to the final six games of the regular season. Montevallo will travel to Jackson, TN. where they will face the Union Bulldogs. First game is on Friday, Apr. 19 at 5:00 p.m. at Fesmire Softball Field.
