Falcons Split Twinbill at Union

JACKSON, Tenn. –  Montevallo split a twin-bill, Saturday, against Union in Jackson, Tennessee.

In game two of the series and game one of the doubleheader, Montevallo avenged its game one loss with an 8-3 win. Union outlasted the Falcons 4-1 in the series finale, handing UM a 2-1 series loss.

Montveallo's offense returned to its form in game one on Saturday, but game two repeated Friday's stagnant effort at the plate.

GAME 1 INFORMATION

In game two of the series and game one of Saturday's doubleheader, Montevallo avenged its game-one loss with an 8-3 win.

After collecting a season-low three hits on Friday, Montevallo's offense picked up the base with eight runs on seven hits.

Union took the lead, first, in the bottom of the second on a SAC-bunt RBI. This time, Montevallo's offense responded with a four-spot in the fourth inning.

A single down the left field line from Landon Leake opened the scoring in the fourth and evened the score, 1-1. After Barry Eiseman drew a walk to load the bases, Peyton Stephenson drew an RBI base-on-balls to push UM ahead 2-1. With the bases still loaded, Evan Liddie delivered a two-RBI single to right field, giving Montevallo a 4-1 advantage.

Following the four-run fourth inning for the Falcons, Union added a pair of runs in the fifth on an RBI single and sacrifice fly, trimming the lead to one, 4-3.

Once again, Montevallo answered the Bulldogs and added a pair of runs off the bat of Logan Harbin in the sixth. Harbin drove in two of his four total RBI for the day on a single through the left side to give UM a 6-3 lead.

Harbin added insurance runs for Montevallo in the eighth with another two-RBI single, capping off a 3-for-4 day from the plate.

Zach Wyatt tossed a clean inning in the ninth to secure the 8-3 win for the Falcons.

GAME NOTES

·         Montevallo scored eight runs on seven hits while Union added seven hits and just three runs.

·         Logan Harbin collected three of UM's seven total hits as he went 3-for-4 from the plate four runs batted in.

·         Evan Liddie joined Harbin with a multi-hit and multi RBI day as he went 2-for-4 with two RBI.

·         Conor Crowson and Landon Leake each walked three times.

GAME 2 INFORMATION

Score: Montevallo 1 | Union 4

Montevallo took the lead, 1-0, just two outs into the game with an RBI single from Landon Leake.

Union answered UM with two runs in the first to take the lead, 2-1.

Following scoreless frames in the second and third, Union added two its lead with a pair of runs in the fourth, to lead 4-1.

In the sixth, the Falcons loaded the bases with two outs but failed to push across any runs. Montevallo left nine runners on base in the game and was unable to overcome the 4-1 deficit. 

GAME NOTES

·         Montevallo added six hits and plated just one run while Union totaled four runs on six hits.

·         Landon Leake drove in the lone run as he finished 1-for-3.

·         Ethan Huddleston recorded a multi-hit date as he went 2-for-4 with a double.

·         Connor Crowson and Landon Leake each walked three times.
