Falcons Pick Up 14th GSC Win of the Season, Taylor Lloyd Breaks Single-Season Record For Wins in a Season

JACKSON, Tenn. – The University of Montevallo softball team takes game one of the double-header, 9-0, but falls in the final game of the series, 6-3, on Saturday, Apr. 20 at Fesmire Softball Field.

GAME ONE
After falling in game one of the series yesterday, Montevallo quickly erased that memory with three-run first inning. Ariana Pinder would draw a lead-off walk, then Bentlee Stiner would move Pinder to second with a single through the right side. Lily Stone would hit her third extra base hit of the week with a three-run homer to left. With the home run, Stone would pick up her second, three-RBI game of the week.

In the top of the second, the Falcons added another run as Ansley Hudson would come home to score on a Bulldog error. Montevallo kept pounding away with an RBI single off the bat of Olivia Bergert to bring home Madison Fargo. Maddie Taylor would add to the Falcon lead with a two out double off the wall in right center to score Kendall Channell and Lily Stone. In the top of the sixth, Montevallo would rip three doubles in a row from Taylor, Pendley and Bergert to put the run rule in affect as Um went up 9-0.

Taylor Lloyd was magnificent as she picked up her 14th win of the season which is the most in a single-season by any pitcher in Montevallo softball program history. Lloyd threw her GSC leading sixth shutout of the season and now has 12 complete games. She has an even 130 strikeouts in the 2024 season.

GAME TWO
With the series tied 1-1 between the Falcons and Bulldogs, the rubber match would have significant playoff implications as the two teams were tied at 14-12 inside GSC play. Just like the first game today, Lily Stone would come to the plate in the first inning with two on, one out. Stone roped a ball off the left field wall as the Falcon clean up hitter picked up another RBI on the day. In the bottom half, Falcon starter Rachel Whiddon kept the Bulldogs off the scoreboard.

Union tied the ballgame with a lead-off solo homer in the second and would then take the lead as they scored off a fielder's choice. Bentlee Stiner came through for Montevallo with a two-run homer for her eighth long ball of the season. The Bulldogs tied the game in the bottom half as they brought a runner home of another fielder's choice.

In the bottom of the fifth, Union hit two solo homers to take a 5-3 lead. They added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth. The Bulldog pitching shut down the Falcon offense to end the game and to take the series.
