St. Augustine, Fla. – Montevallo men's lacrosse fell in an overtime heartbreaker on the road at Flagler in the final game of the 2024 regular season.
Montevallo opened the game's scoring with an early
Zach Laberge goal inside the game's first minute.
Ryan Andrews extended the Falcons' early lead with a goal just under two minutes later. Flagler capitalized on a Montevallo penalty and posted the first Saint goal of the day. The Saints took a 3-2 lead with 4:00 remaining with back-to-back goals before Montevallo's
Jacob Obee knotted the game at 3-3 heading into the second.
Flagler regained the lead with 13:16 on the clock before
Trevayne Hunter tied the game back up off a pass from
Jackson Klewchuk just 35 seconds later. Klewchuk found his first goal of the game at the 10:24 mark with the assist credited to
Jacob Obee. Sophmore goalkeeper
Alex Egorshin kept the Saints off the board with a pair of saves before Flagler brought the game back level at 5-5. Obee beat the keeper with an unassisted effort with just 2:45 in the half before the Saints tied the game at 6-6 heading into the break.
Out of the half, Falcons fired three shots before Obee broke the ice for a 7-6 lead before
Matthew Boas' man-up goal with 11:59 to play lifted the Falcons to an 8-6 advantage. The Saints knotted the game at eight apiece with a pair of unanswered goals before taking the lead with 6:43 left in the third. Laberge's second goal of the afternoon brought the Falcons back level with 4:39 on the clock. After Flagler opened a 10-9 lead, Laberge completed the hat trick off a pass from
Trevayne Hunter with just 2:35 left in the quarter.
James Trainer added a long-stick goal in the final minute of the third before Flagler scored in the final second to send the game to the fourth tied at 11-11.
Ben Boldt opened the fourth quarter scoring with the defenseman's third goal of the season in the first 14 seconds. A few minutes later, Flagler tied the game yet again with 10:18 to play before taking a 13-12 lead with 6:31 left. Montevallo fired four shots on goal over the final few minutes of action but couldn't find the mark while Egorshin tallied three saves in the final four minutes to keep the game tied at 13-13 and force overtime for the second time this season.
Montevallo won the opening facing to begin overtime with possession. Klewchuk looked to score the game-winner for the second time this season but missed high with 3:16 to play. A costly, Falcon turnover led to Flagler's first possession of the final period. Out of a timeout, Flagler beat the Falcons' defense and took the game, 14-13.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST | Montevallo was outshot 11-7 in the first quarter but both sides tallied four shots on goal in a 3-3 opening quarter. The Falcons struggled in the early faceoffs going 1-for-7 in the opening 15 minutes.
2ND | The Falcons' attack fired 15 shots in the second quarter with 10 shots on target while Flagler's keeper posted seven saves. Montevallo's faceoff specialists found a rhythm in the second with a 5-for-7 mark just before the half.
3RD | The two sides held the score even through the third with five goals apiece while the Falcons took 13 shots with nine shots on frame. Montevallo secured eight of the ten third quarter faceoffs.
4TH | Both defenses stiffened in the fourth quarter with just two goals from either side while the goalkeepers combined for 10 saves. Both sides took 10 total shots with seven shots on goal.
OT | Montevallo began overtime with possession, but a missed shot and a costly turnover led to Flagler's overtime winner.
