ROME, Ga. – Montevallo men's lacrosse improved to 2-0 in Peach Belt Conference action with a dominant 23-9 victory over Shorter on the road.
Montevallo's
Jacob Obee drew first blood with the assist credited to
Will Sommer as the Falcons took a 1-0 lead with 12:05 left in the first. The Falcons took a quartet of shots on goal before
Trevayne Hunter beat the keeper at the 8:57 mark. A few minutes later,
William Angus lifted Montevallo to a 3-0 lead before a goal from
Samuel Martin added to the Falcon's advantage.
Morgan Trites continued Montevallo's hot start with a fifth unanswered goal before Shorter finally ended the Falcons' run with 2:38 to play. In the closing stages of the first, Hunter added his second goal of the day to head to the second quarter with a 6-1 Montevallo lead.
The Hawks' defense opened the second quarter with four saves on five Falcon shots before Shorter cut into the Falcons' lead with 9:13 left in the half. Shorter cut Montevallo's lead in half before the Falcons added three goals in less than a minute. Angus scored the first UM goal of the quarter with 3:02 left before Hunter added a second just 30 seconds later. On the following UM faceoff win,
Jackson Klewchuk tallied his first goal of the day with 2:27 left in the half. The Hawks made on final save before the break to keep the score at 9-3 Montevallo.
Laberge found his first goal of the day in the opening minute of the second half before
Anthony Coviello lifted the Falcons to an 11-3 lead. With 9:01 on the clock,
Henry Casement got on the board before scoring slowed for the next four minutes. Midfielder
Morgan Trites tallied another Falcon goal at the 5:14 mark before Hunter and Klewchuk scored goals just a minute apart to give Montevallo a 15-3 lead. Obee punctuated a 7-0 quarter from the Falcons with just 12 seconds on the clock to send the game to the fourth with a 16-3 Montevallo lead.
Casement beat the keeper for a second time to open the fourth quarter scoring before Shorter added back-to-back goals. Montevallo answered with a pair of goals from Angus and Trites to hold on to a 19-5 lead. Once again Shorter found a pair of unanswered goals before
Brett Bilodeau took advantage of a man-up chance with 5:28 on the clock. Freshman
Jetty Miller scored his first of the game just before
Gage Farris found the mark for both Falcons first goal of the season. For the third time in the fourth, Shorter scored back-to-back goals before
Jack Citrano's first goal of his career gave the Falcons a 23-9 win on the road.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1st | The Falcons' attack got out to a hot start with a 22-2 shooting advantage in the opening quarter. Montevallo also controlled the faceoffs with a 6-2 lead while leading 15-5 in opening quarter ground balls.
2nd | Montevallo recorded 15 shots in the second quarter while allowing just six from Shorter. The Falcons outscored Shorter 3-2 in the second with a 5-1 mark on faceoffs.
3rd | The Falcons held Shorter scoreless in the third while adding another seven goals on a 17-7 shot advantage. Montevallo gave up just one faceoff for the second quarter of the day with a 7-1 mark.
4th | Both sides combined for 13 goals in the fourth quarter with Montevallo outscoring the Hawks 7-6 in the fourth. The Falcons continued to dominate the faceoffs with a 9-4 mark.
GAME NOTES
- Montevallo offense fired on all cylinders with a 69-25 advantage in shots with a 51-12 lead in shots on goal.
- The Falcons won 27 of the 35 faceoffs on the day while winning the ground balls 46-25.
- Gerry York lost just one faceoff to the Hawks with a 13-14 mark while adding five ground balls.
- Trevayne Hunter led the Falcons' attack with six points on four goals and two assists while Morgan Trites and William Angus added three goals and one assist.
