Box Score OXFORD, Ala. – The Montevallo baseball team was unable to overcome a fast start by Valdosta State, falling to the Blazers 13-2 in the opening round of the 2024 Gulf South Conference Baseball Championship.
No. 5 seed Valdosta State opened the game with four runs on two homers in the first, putting the Falcons behind 4-0.
Gino Cozzi settled into the game with a pair of three-up, three-down frames in the second and third innings.
The Blazers added four more in the fourth and a pair in the fifth, to lead UM 8-0.
In the top of the sixth, the Falcons found their first run of the game on an RBI double from
Logan Harbin – his team-leading 11
th of the year. Next,
Landon Leake collected his second hit of the day as he drove in UM's second run of the game on a single, cutting the deficit to eight, 10-2.
The Falcons came up short in the end as VSU took game one, 13-2.
