Falcons Open GSC Action With Dominant 6-2 Win Over AUM

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo women's soccer opened Gulf South Conference slate with a 6-2 rout of Auburn Montgomery in the Falcons' annual Sea of Purple game.

The Warhawks drew first blood with a quick goal just over a minute into the action. Following the second early corner for UM, Morgan Goehring equalized with her second goal of the season. Montevallo's attack continued to add on the damage with Isabel Dillehay's first goal of the night just three minutes later. AUM saw a dangerous scoring chance but caught the woodwork and was denied the tying goal. A Montevallo penalty taken by Lainey Farabaugh was saved by the Warhawk keeper but Farabaugh got a boot on the rebound to give Montevallo a 3-1 lead in the 31st minute. AUM pulled a goal closer in the 39th minute but a shot that missed high gave the Falcons a 3-2 lead heading into the break.

The two sides looked to strike early in the second half but Emily Hounsell stopped an AUM shot on frame while the Warhawk keeper turned Farabaugh away in the 49th minute. Senior midfielder Rilee Bradbury extended the Falcons lead to 4-2 off a pass from Shadia Valenzuela in 25 minutes left in the second half. Another Montevallo corner in the 78th minute led to Dillehay's second goal of the day with Bradbury taking her second assist of the night. Just 40 seconds later, Valenzuela got on the board with her second goal of the season to give the Falcons a 6-2 advantage. A final save from Hounsell with five minutes to go sealed the Falcons 6-2 win over in-state rival AUM.
