LIVINGSTON, Ala. – A late goal on the road at West Alabama lifted Montevallo to a 1-0 win over the Tigers in Livingston, Ala.
Senior midfielder
Summer Burress nearly gave the Falcons an early lead with a header in the third minute but a save from UWA kept the game at a 0-0 stalemate. After just two shots over the next 15 minutes, graduate keeper
Emily Hounsell made her lone save of the night. Back-to-back shots on goal from
Isabel Dillehay and
Shadia Valenzuela were turned away to keep the game scoreless with 22 minutes left in the first half. A quartet of Montevallo shots within eight minutes of each nearly gave the Falcons the lead heading into the half but the Tiger defense kept UM off the board.
Senior
Rilee Bradbury nearly opened up the scoring with an early second-half header but was denied. Another UWA save turned
Tessa Harrington away in the 54
th minute. The game continued to be a defensive battle over the next 20 minutes before the Falcons saw back-to-back corners. Despite the Falcon pressure, UWA's defense didn't break. Montevallo's
Raylene Alcaraz found space in the attacking third and hooked up with an open
Isabel Dillehay who beat the keeper in the 83
rd minute. With the Falcons leading 1-0, Harrington fired a final shot on goal in the closing stages as Montevallo walked away with a big road win over UWA.
