Falcons Drop 3-1 Decision to No. 17 West Florida

PENSACOLA, Fla. — The Montevallo volleyball team put up a strong fight against No. 17 West Florida on Friday night but ultimately fell 3-1 inside the UWF Field House.

After a slow start in the opening frame, Montevallo stormed back with a 6-1 run midway through the first set to erase a 16-9 deficit. Behind strong serving from libero Ava Wind and blocks from Nikol Antova and Ellise Hanson, the Falcons tied the score at 16-all before the Argos edged ahead late to claim the opener, 25-21.

In the second set, Montevallo matched the Argonauts point-for-point early as Maggie McColley and Antova combined for several early kills. The Falcons grabbed a 7-5 lead after a service ace from Lily Erdal, but West Florida responded with a 6-1 burst to regain momentum and take the second, 25-21.

The Falcons flipped the script in the third. Montevallo came alive offensively, using a 7-3 run to turn a 10-7 deficit into a 17-13 advantage. McColley and Danielle Greene added key kills late to seal the set, 25-19, to extend the match.

The fourth set was a back-and-forth battle. The Falcons opened with several big plays at the net as Greene and McColley combined for early blocks, while Eliza Tyrrell and Mallory Hulsey each added kills to keep pace. West Florida built a 21-14 lead, but Montevallo answered again with a 6-1 run that included a service ace from Blakeley Robbins and a block by Greene and McColley to cut the deficit to 23-21. The Argos, however, closed out the match with consecutive points to take the set 25-21.
