Falcons Take Down Tigers 3-1

MONTEVALLOAla— The Montevallo volleyball team took care of West Alabama Tuesday night, defeating the Tigers 3-1 inside Central State Bank Arena.

Montevallo opened strong behind early kills from Eliza Tyrrell and Maggie McColley to build a 3-0 lead. The Tigers responded midway through the set with a 7–1 run. Down 22-17, Montevallo surged back with six of th next seven points to pull within one. Despite the late push, UWA held off the rally to take the opener 25-23.

The Falcons flipped the script in the second set with a dominant start. A 7-2 opening burst, sparked by McColley, Mae Mae Beatty, and Kate Wilkin, forced an early Tiger timeout. Montevallo kept the pressure on, using a 10-1 extended run behind Tyrrell and Danielle Greene to stretch the lead to double digits. Robbins' steady setting and a balanced front-row attack helped UM close out the frame 25-12.

Momentum stayed with the Falcons in the third. After trading points early, Mae Mae Beatty's service run, including an ace, fueled a 6-0 stretch that put Montevallo up 10-8. The Falcons' blocking came alive midway through, as the home team widened the margin to 17-13. Tyrrell and Mallory Hulsey provided the finishing touches, with a McColley swing sealing the set at 25-19.

The Falcons left no doubt in the fourth, racing out to an 8–0 lead behind Tyrrell's serving run that featured three aces and kills from Greene and Beatty. Montevallo never trailed in the frame, holding the Tigers to a .192 hitting percentage. A kill from Hulsey and a block from Tyrrell Wilkin closed things out, 25-13, to secure the 3-1 win.

GAME NOTES

  • Eliza Tyrrell paced UM with 12 kills.
  • Maggie McColley added seven kills and a team-high five service aces.
  • The Falcons dominated from the service line, recording 13 aces on the night compared to just three for West Alabama.
