INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Montevallo men's and women's swimming teams opened competition at the House of Champions on Thursday, taking on a deep field loaded with Division I programs. After Day One, the Falcon women sit in 12th place, while the men hold 11th heading into Friday's prelims.
Thursday's performances were headlined by a record-breaking swim from the women's 400-yard medley relay team of Petra Cajkas, Hanna Persson, Keara McGee, and Alexandria Morgan, who set a new school record with a time of 3:52.37.
Morgan continued her standout day with the second-fastest 500-yard freestyle time in program history during prelims at 5:05.02, later adding a fourth all-time mark with a 5:11.44 in the final. The women's 200-yard freestyle relay team of McGee, Xena Zanders, Vanina Loriedo, and Morgan also delivered, posting the second-fastest time in school history at 1:37.37.
On the men's side, the 200-yard freestyle relay group of Jimmy Franck, Alexander Kim, Denis Popov, and Aleksei Kolesnikov clocked the third-fastest time in program history at 1:23.08. Popov added to the record book individually with the 10th-fastest 50-yard backstroke in program history at 24.18, while also teaming with Enrique Llorens, Kolesnikov, and Kim for a strong showing in the 400-yard medley relay as their 3:25.10 time is the sixth-fastest all time.
