MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo Athletics has named Men's Swimming's Edu Elizaran Galan and Women's Swimming's Alexandria Morgan as the Montevallo Players of the Week presented by Jack's for the week of February 23.
Edu Elizaran Galan (Men's Swimming)
Edu Elizaran Galan had a pivotal week in the pool, helping lead the Falcon men to their first Conference Carolinas team title.
Galan was a key contributor to the men's 800-yard freestyle relay team that opened the meet with a conference championship and program-record time of 6:45.80. He later helped the 200-yard freestyle relay squad to a runner-up finish in 1:24.14, swimming a 21.25 split.
Individually, Galan captured two conference titles. He claimed gold in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:40.41, the sixth-fastest mark in program history. He followed that performance with another first-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke, touching the wall in 1:48.76 to secure his second individual crown of the meet.
His performances were instrumental in Montevallo totaling 658 points to secure the conference championship.
Alexandria Morgan (Women's Swimming)
Alexandria Morgan put together one of the most impressive weeks in program history, contributing to multiple relay victories while adding podium finishes and school records in individual events.
Morgan helped the women's 200-yard medley relay team open the championships with a conference title and program-record time of 1:45.98, swimming a 23.83 split. She later added another gold medal as part of the 400-yard medley relay team that captured the title in 3:50.50. In the 800-yard freestyle relay, Morgan helped guide the Falcons to a runner-up finish in 7:46.53, and she closed the meet with a third-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:32.50).
Individually, Morgan earned a third-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle with an NCAA B-cut time of 5:03.34, the second-fastest mark in program history. She added a runner-up finish in the 200-yard freestyle (1:54.73) and capped the championships with a program-record performance in the 1650-yard freestyle, placing third in 17:39.67.
Morgan's efforts helped the Falcon women total 621 points and secure a second-place team finish at the conference meet. In addition to her success in the pool, Morgan was named the Conference Carolinas Women's Swimming Elite 26 Award winner, recognizing the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA competing at the championship site.
