FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Montevallo women's soccer advances to the second round of the 2025 NCAA South Region Tournament after topping No. 3 Lee, 2-0, on Friday afternoon.
Lee opened the game with early pressure forcing a save from
Jolie Cazale in the first 45 seconds of the game before the Lady Flames added a second shot just three minutes later. In the ninth minute,
Bear Bradbury fired the Falcons' first shot on goal of the afternoon but was turned aside by the Lee keeper. The game morphed into a battle for possession for the next 20 minutes before Lee added back-to-back shots that both missed the mark. On a Falcon counterattack sparked by a Cazale save,
Isabel Dillehay took advantage of a Lee miscue and buried a shot in the back of the net to give Montevallo a 1-0 lead in the 38
th minute. Lee saw a final scoring opportunity in the 43
rd minute but missed the mark and went into the half with Montevallo leading 1-0.
Out of the break, forward
Katelynn Kott looked to extend Montevallo's lead in the 60
th minute but was denied by Lee's goalkeeper. The next shot of the afternoon marked
Morgan Goehring's sixth goal of the season off an assist from Dillehay to put the Falcons up 2-0 with 23 minutes to go. The 80
th minute saw Cazale tally yet another save to keep the Lady Flames off the board before adding a fifth save just over two minutes later. Cazale closed the Falcons' first-round victory with her sixth save of the afternoon to take her fourth shutout of the season and send Montevallo to the second round with a 2-0 win over Lee.
