MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo men's basketball improves to 3-2 after a 90-68 win over Spring Hill behind a trio of Falcons scoring in double-figures.
Montevallo took command early with a 10-2 lead in the first three minutes behind six early points from
Derek Moore. At the 15:39 mark,
Tyson Sexton ended a quick run from SHC to push the Falcons lead back out to 10. Spring Hill would then go on a 9-4 run to cut Montevallo's lead down to 18-15 before five-straight UM points from Moore and a dunk in transition from
Tyson Sexton pushed Montevallo's lead back to 10 with 10:24 left in the half. Late in the first half, Montevallo would use a 14-2 run capped by back-to-back triples from O'Niell Connolly gave Montevallo its largest lead of the half at 21 points with a score of 47-26. Spring Hill would outscore Montevallo 5-3 in the final minute of the half to head into the locker room with the Falcons leading 50-32.
Spring Hill cut into Montevallo's lead early in the second half with an early 6-0 run but Montevallo would answer with a quick run of its own to keep a 58-40 lead at the 15:11 mark. The Falcons stretched the lead back to 21 with three-pointers from Fussell, McKinnon and Sexton to lead 69-48 heading into the final 10 minutes. Montevallo took its largest lead of the night at the 4:36 mark behind a finish from
Reese Gurner to take an 82-54 lead with just over four minutes to play. Spring Hill trimmed Montevallo's lead with an 11-0 run but couldn't dig itself out of the 28-point hole giving Montevallo its 90-68 win in Central State Bank Arena.

- Montevallo shot lights out from the field with a 50.8-percent clip from the floor while going 87.5 percent at the stripe with a 14-for-16 mark.

- Derek Moore led Montevallo's offense with 19 points on a near-perfect 8-for-9 mark from the floor while adding seven steals and five rebounds.
- Devon McKinnon scored his third double-digit outing in his young career with 18 points on 5-of-11 shooting and 6-for-6 from the stripe.
