Falcons Drop Conference Opener at Lee

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – Montevallo men's basketball fell to Lee on the road in the Falcons' conference opener.
 
Montevallo fell behind early with Lee taking a 7-2 lead early in the first half before the Falcons tied the game at seven with a quick 5-0 run from Brandon Fussell and Sam Duskin. Lee regained control with an 8-3 run over the next four minutes before stretching the lead to 24-15 with 11:07 on the clock. The Falcons cut the lead down to four with back-to-back buckets from Fussell before a trip to the stripe brought the Falcons within three with 6:32 to go in the half. Lee took the final points of the half on the break to head into the locker room with a 37-28 lead over Montevallo.
 
Lee opened the second half on a 14-2 run to stretch its lead out to 51-30 before a finish at the rim from Derek Moore ended the scoring streak. Montevallo used a 7-2 run to trim into the Flames' lead over the next four minutes before Lee pushed the lead to 64-43 with 6:19 to go. Montevallo was outscored 9-4 in the final four minutes of the season opener that ended in a 75-51 loss for the Falcons.

GAME NOTES
  • The Falcons shot just 36.0-percent from the floor while going 10-for-14 from the stripe while Lee tallied a 50.9-percent shooting clip and a 46.2-percent mark from deep.
  • Lee won the rebounding battle 35-28 while the Flames to a 12-6 advantage in second chance points.
  • Brandon Fussell led Montevallo with 15 points on 5-of-15 shooting while adding four assists and three rebounds.
  • Derek Moore added his second double-double of the season with 15 points and 13 rebounds while shooting 6-fo-10 from the floor.
