MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo men's basketball closed the week with a dominant 89-62 win over Mississippi College on Saturday evening behind a quartet of double-digit scorers.
Brandon Fussell opened the game's scoring with a triple just 14 seconds into the game to give Montevallo a lead that it would not relinquish for the rest of the night. A pair of
Devon McKinnon threes and an old-fashioned three-point play from
Derek Moore gave Montevallo a 14-6 lead with 14:07 left in the first half.
Tyson Sexton's finish at the rim with 11:09 on the clock stretched Montevallo's lead out to 23-8. A
Bryant James bucket in the paint at the 5:26 mark put the Falcons up by 23 points before Moore gave Montevallo a 40-14 lead with just 1:55 left in the half. The Falcons went into the break with a 42-20 lead after holding MC to just 25.8-percent shooting in the first 20 minutes.
Out of the break,
Reese Gurner nailed a three in transition to extend Montevallo's lead to 25 at the 17:49 mark. Mississippi College would cut the lead down to 17 with just over 15 minutes to go but a 14-2 Montevallo run over the next three minutes pushed Montevallo's lead back to 66-37 with 11:52 to go. Montevallo's largest led of the night followed a Fussell three at the 8:26 mark to give the Falcons a 73-42 advantage and a 31-point lead. MC answered with a 9-1 run to trim Montevallo's lead down to 79-54 with 4:06 on the clock. A 10-4 Montevallo run in the closing stages closed the game and gave Montevallo its 89-62 win to cap a two-game homestand.

- Derek Moore led Montevallo's scoring with 20 points on 7-of-13 shooting while adding a 6-for-6 mark from the stripe to go along with nine rebounds and two assists.
- Brandon Fussell tallied a total of 14 points on the night while recording eight assists, four rebounds and four steals with just two turnovers.
