MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Montevallo men's basketball improves to a 4-1 start in Gulf South Conference action after a 75-54 win over Christian Brothers on the road.
After the first bucket of the game, Montevallo held CBU scoreless for the first eight minutes of the game to take an early 11-3 lead at the 12:03 mark with seven early points from
Brandon Fussell. At the 8:20 mark of the first half,
Derek Moore began what would be 10-straight points for Montevallo with a 3-for-3 mark from the field to give Montevallo a 30-15 lead with four minutes before the break.
Reese Gurner scored the final four points of the half for the Falcons and stretched the lead to 36-18 heading into the locker room.
Moore continued his strong scoring night with six of Montevallo's first eight points of the half and helped to stretch the lead out to 46-21 with 13:04 to go. A pair of threes from Fussell and McKinnon pushed Montevallo's advantage up to 54-27 at the 11:12 mark. Montevallo would hold at least 20-point lead over the next five minutes before a CBU triple trimmed the lead down to 60-42. A trio of consecutive threes for UM from McKinnon, O'Niell Conolly and
Tyson Sexton gave Montevallo a 73-52 advantage with just over two minutes to play. A pair of buckets down the stretch gave Montevallo its final score of 75-54 to improve to 4-1 in conference play.
