Hendrix Drains Six Triples as Falcons Take Down Choctaws 70-59

MONTEVALLO, Ala.Audrey Hendrix drained six three-pointers to lead the Montevallo women's basketball team to a, 70-59, victory over Mississippi College on Saturday afternoon.

Hendrix led the way with 18 points, shooting six-of-10 from beyond the arc. Elyse Hughes scored 14 points and Emily Mouser added 12. Jerrilyn Richardson had a strong day on the glass, totaling 14 rebounds.

The Choctaws struck first with a three-pointer in the opening minute, but the Falcons responded with an 8-0 run, highlighted by triples from Hendrix, Alani Owens, and Mouser to put Montevallo ahead, 11-3, at the 4:51 mark. An MC free throw halted the Falcon run, before Hughes cashed in on a lay-in. Both teams traded baskets through the next few minutes, but a London Robinson lay-in and a Hendrix triple put the Falcons ahead by double digits, 20-10, with 48 seconds left. The Choctaws closed the opening quarter with a last second three-pointer, as the Falcons took a, 20-13, advantage at the end of the first.

The Falcons opened the second quarter strong, as Mouser hit a triple and Kylee Norman connected on an and-one to put the Falcons ahead, 26-13, at the 8:00 mark. Hendrix added another triple and Burdette earned a lay-in in the next few minutes, but the Choctaws cut the Falcon lead down to ten, 29-19, with 4:59 left. Burdette would knock down back-to-back buckets, as Montevallo held on to its ten-point advantage, 34-24, with 1:40 left in the half.  Hughes scored the final five Falcon points of the half, putting the Falcons ahead, 39-26, at the break.

The Choctaws opened the second half outscoring the Falcons 6-2 to cut the UM lead back down to single digits, 40-32, at the 7:09 mark. Both teams traded a pair of buckets through the next four minutes, as UM held on to a, 44-36, lead, with 2:55 left. The Choctaws cut into the Falcon advantage, using a 6-0 run to make it a one possession game, 44-42, with 1:27 left in the third. Hughes halted the MC run with a lay-in, but the Choctaws nailed a last second lay-in, as the Falcons took a narrow, 46-44, advantage into the final quarter.

The Choctaws opened the fourth quarter with a lay-in to tie the game for the first time since early in the first quarter. Montevallo responded, as Richardson and Hughes hit back-to-back buckets to put the Falcons back in front, 50-46, at the 8:37 mark. Hendrix nailed a pair of triples in the next two minutes and Mouser added a jumper, as the Falcons stretched lead to, 58-50, at the 6:36 mark. The Falcons continued to push, as Hendrix connected from distance once again and Mouser hit a pair of free throws to put Montevallo back in front by double digits, 63-51, with 3:21 left. Richardson cashed in on a lay-in, but the Choctaws outscored the Falcons 8-2 to cut the Montevallo lead down to, 65-59, with 1:09 left in the contest. Montevallo held strong defensively and hit five free throws in the final minute to seal a, 70-59, victory.
