JACKSON, Tenn. – Montevallo men's basketball closed the first half of conference play with a 67-63 loss on the road at Union.
Montevallo took a nine-point lead early with a 10-1 run to open the game with threes from
Devon McKinnon and
Bryant James. Union answered with an 8-0 run to pull back within one at the 11:56 mark in the first half before a
Miller Moody jumper from long range ended the run to give Montevallo a 13-9 lead. Union knotted the game at 13-13 with 7:17 left in the half but a
Tyson Sexton triple pushed Montevallo back in front. Montevallo's O'Niell Connolly knocked down a three from the top of the key with just five seconds on the clock to send Montevallo into the locker room with a 24-19 lead.
Derek Moore opened Montevallo's second-half scoring with a finish at the rim for the first of his 17 second-half points. Union used another 8-0 run to take its first lead of the night at 27-26 with 18:13 to go. The Falcons regained control just three minutes later before Same Duskin gave Montevallo a slim 32-29 lead with his first points of the night. A 10-3 Bulldog run over two minutes left Montevallo in a 46-40 whole with 9:59 to play.
Brandon Fussell and Moore combined for the next 18 Montevallo points over the next six minutes to bring Montevallo within one at 61-60 heading down the stretch. Union shot 4-for-4 from the line in the final two minutes to hold on and give Montevallo a 67-63 loss.

GAME NOTES
- Both sides struggled to score in the first half with Montevallo shooting just 31-percent from the floor in the first 20 minutes but finished the game with a 15-for-30 mark in the second half.
- Union won the battle inside after taking a 26-22 advantage in points in the paint while adding 13 second-chance points from the Bulldogs.
- Montevallo lost on the glass 48-35 with Union pulling down a total of 19 offensive boards.
- Derek Moore led Montevallo with 19 points on 8-for-10 shooting while adding four rebounds and three assists.
- Brandon Fussell finished with 13 points on 5-for-13 shooting with three boards and five assists.
- Tyson Sexton finished one-point shy of the double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds.
