MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo men's lacrosse rebounded from its first loss of the season with a 19-13 win over Thomas More on Saturday.
Montevallo struck first with a pair of
John Spaans goals in the opening minute before Thomas More scored with 13:24 on the clock to make the score 3-1. The Falcons added back-to-back goals from Aaron Tichinoff and
Caden Chalut to stretch the lead to four before
Zach Reed's unassisted effort gave the Falcons a 5-1 advantage. With 8:14 to play in the first,
Michael Howkins found the back of the net just a minute before
Matthew Boas scored his first of four goals to give Montevallo a 7-1 lead. Boas completed his first-quarter hat trick with a
Jetty Miller goal sandwiched in between to send the game to the second with a 10-1 Montevallo lead.
UM opened the second quarter on a 3-0 run with
William Angus sparking the spurt with Tichinoff and
Nick Givens extended the lead to 13-1 with 11:18 left in the half. The Saints scored a pair of unanswered goals to trim the lead down to 10 before Howkins made the score 14-3 with 3:44 to play. Following a Saints goal, Boas took advantage of a man-up chance in the final 10 seconds of the half to take a 15-4 Montevallo lead into the locker room.
Thomas More's defense held strong to start the second half with a trio of saves while scoring a pair of goals to cut the lead down to 15-6 with 8:21 on the clock. The Falcons saw another pair of shots denied before
Conlan Creamer tallied his first career goal ahead of a
Matthew Egorshin goal the gave UM a 17-6 advantage with 2:23 left in the third. The Saints scored the final goal of the third to send the game to the final stanza with a 17-7 Montevallo lead.
The Saints scored a man-up goal early in the fourth to bring the lead back down to single digits before
Jonah Brooking's first goal of the season extended the Falcons' lead to 18-8 with 13:09 to play. Thomas More cut the lead down to 10 with a pair of quick goals before scoring a third unanswered with 9:06 left. With 3:56 on the clock, Howkins scored his third of the day for the Falcons' final goal before Thomas More looked to spark a comeback with a pair of late goals. Montevallo's
Tommy Blanchard stopped the final shot of the game to give Montevallo a 19-13 win.
