Falcons Fall to Belmont Abbey in Overtime

BELMONT, N.C. – Montevallo men's lacrosse fell to Belmont Abbey, 7-6, in an overtime game on the road.
 
Montevallo fired a pair of shots on goal before Matthew Boas scored the first goal of the day with 11:02 in the first before Alex Egorshin made his second of 22 saves on the day with 10:11 left. Egorshin tallied a trio of saves before Caden Chalut lifted the Falcons to a 2-0 lead at the 4:39 mark. Egorshin finished the first quarter with two more saves to send the game to the second with Montevallo leading by two.
 
William Angus scored a third unanswered goal for the Falcons before the Crusaders got on the board to make the score 3-1 with 11:31 left in the half. Montevallo's Michael Howkins took advantage of a BAC penalty to put the Falcons back up by three with 10:56 to play. The Crusaders stormed back with three-consecutive goals to send the game to the half in a 4-4 tie.
 
Both goalkeepers combined for four saves to open the second half before Chalut broke the tie with 8:17 on the clock. Egorshin added two more saves before Belmont Abbey tied the game at five apiece with 4:24 on the clock. Montevallo took two more shots before the quarter expired with the score tied at 5-5.
 
To open the fourth, Egorshin held the crusaders scoreless with eight saves before Jacob Obee gave the Falcons a slim lead with 5:05 to go. Just two minutes later, Belmont Abbey found the mark and tied the game at 6-6. A Boas shot in the final 10 seconds of the game was denied sending the game to overtime.
 
Montevallo had the first possession of overtime, but an Aaron Tichinoff shot missed wide to give BAC the ball. With 2:40 left in overtime, Belmont Abbey scored the game winner to hand Montevallo its second loss of the season.

  • The Falcons were outshot on the day, 40-34, with the Crusaders taking a 29-23 advantage in shots on goal.
  • Montevallo posted a 26for-31 clip in clears while Belmont Abbey went 32-of-37.
  • Brandon Shaffner had a good performance with a 10-for-17 mark on faceoffs while picking up six ground balls.
  • Caden Chalut led the Falcon attack with two goals while adding an assist for a total of three points.
  • Alex Egorshin allowed just seven goals on the day with a season-high 22 saves in a losing effort.
