Crowson Homers Twice, Pitching Staff Strikes Out 14 in Win Against Tuskegee

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo baseball team defeats Tuskegee in their midweek match up, 3-1. The Falcons have now won three in a row and improve to 7-4. With the loss, Tuskegee falls to 3-8 on the season.
 
The Falcons couldn't have drawn up a better first inning as starting pitcher Zach Wyatt made quick work of the Tuskegee order with a lead off strikeout and two ground outs. Connor Crowson gave the Falcons the early 1-0 lead with a home run to left center for his fifth long ball of the season. Montevallo kept the pressure on with two on, two out but the Golden Tigers were able to roll a double play ball to get out of the inning.
 
Zach Wyatt settled into the game nicely as he threw a shutout inning in the second including two ground outs and a strikeout. Wyatt would toss a 1-2-3 top of the third with his third and fourth strikeouts of his outing. He would give way to Mitchell Rhodes in the fourth and would pitch a clean inning with the only base runner reaching by an error.
 
Tuskegee tied the game in the top of the fifth with a two out, RBI double to right center to score the runner from first who reached on an error. Rhodes would strike out the final batter of the inning looking. The Falcons did not relinquish the lead for long as Connor Crowson would blast his second home run of the game. Logan Harbin would reach a batter with an infield single. McGwire Turner gave the Falcons some insurance with a double to right center that scored Harbin from first.
 
Logan Medsker would take over the pitching duties in the sixth and would strikeout the first two batters he would see. After an infield single, Medsker would get the final batter of the inning to ground out to Crowson at third. The Montevallo bullpen remained strong as Landen Walker would enter the game and strike out the side. Sam Patrick finished the game and picked up the two inning save as he struck out three and only allowed one hit and no walks.

  • McGwire Turner drove home his fifth RBI of the season with his first double of the season.
  • Logan Medsker threw his fourth scoreless outing of the season.
  • Landen Walker struck out the side in the seventh inning.
  • Sam Patrick picked up his first save of his career as he went two innings, allowed one hit and struck out three.

The Falcons welcome in the Mississippi College Choctaws on Friday, Feb. 21 for their first game of their three-game set. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. CT at Kermit A. Johnson Field at Bob Riesener Stadium.
