Falcons Drop Midweek to Georgia Southwestern

AMERICUS, Ga. – The University of Montevallo baseball team drops their midweek game against Georgia Southwestern on Tuesday, Feb. 25. The Hurricanes won 16-9 and the loss drops Montevallo to 9-6 on the season.

Georgia Southwestern blitzed the Falcons in the first inning with eight runs on six hits including five singles. After a lead off single by Evan Radford, UM responded as Daniel Irizarry laid down a sacrifice-bunt which the Hurricane threw into the right field corner to score Radford. Jacob Pearl grounded out to second a batter later to score Irizarry.

GSW scored three in the bottom of the fourth as they loaded the bases with no outs. A wild pitch and a two RBI double would put the Hurricanes up 11-2. In the top of the sixth, the Falcons loaded the bases with no outs. A wild pitch and a bases loaded walk by McGwire Turner would bring two runs home. The Hurricanes would score four runs in the bottom half, all of which with two outs.

The Falcons would mount a nice comeback in the ninth as they scored five runs on two hits. Montevallo worked three free passes and reached on two errors. The Georgia Southwestern lead was too much for the Falcons as they would fall 9-16.
