Two Longballs and Falcon Bullpen Lead Baseball to Victory Over Spring Hill

Box Score MOBILE, Ala. – The University of Montevallo baseball team picks up a come from behind win as they score three runs in the top of the seventh to down Spring Hill. The Falcons would score two runs in the ninth as they went on to win 7-3 on Tuesday, Feb. 4 at Historic Sims-Galle Field in Mobile, Ala. With the win, Montevallo improves to 3-1 on the season while the Badgers fall to 1-3.

Spring Hill struck first in the bottom of the first with an RBI-single to center to put the Badgers up 1-0. The Falcons would respond in the top of the second as Jackson Webster was plunked by a pitch and Evan Radford drew his team-leading fourth walk of the early season. Ethan Huddleston squared around and dropped a bunt which was mishandled by the Spring Hill pitcher and thrown over the third baseman's head, scoring Webster. After moving to third on the error, Radford would score a couple pitches later on a wild pitch, giving the Falcons the 2-1 lead.

Seth Gurr would go to work with the Falcons first lead of the game. He struck out the first batter of the second, then allowed back-to-back base knocks. Gurr bared down and was able to strand the runners as he induced a fly out to left to end the inning. The Badgers took the lead back with a two-run homer in the bottom half of the third.

Evan Radford led off the top of the fourth with a single to center. Christian Kallaher moved Radford to second as he got on with a single to left. Spring Hill was able to escape the inning with no runs given up. Gurr made quick work of the Badgers in the bottom half as he struck out the first two batters of the inning, then picked off a runner at first to end the frame. With one on, one out, Matthew Bullard relieved Gurr and got the final two outs of the inning. Bullard was lights out in his second appearance of the season as he kept the Badgers bats at bay and gave the Falcons a chance.

The Montevallo bats rewarded Bullard as Connor Crowson singled up the middle to score Zac Carlisle in the seventh to tie the game. A batter later, Logan Harbin launched his second home run of the season as he hit a two-run shot to center. Bullard picked up where he left off as he had a huge shutdown inning where he struck out the first batter of a 3-2 count. He induced two ground outs as well.

Dylan Dickert came on for the Falcons in the bottom of the eighth. After giving up a lead off triple, Dickert was dominant as he struck out the next batter, got a weak pop up to third and got the final batter of the inning to fly out to center. Dickert would pick up his second hold of the season. In the top of the ninth, the Falcons would get all the insurance they needed when Connor Crowson popped his second home run of the season to stake the Falcons to a 7-3 lead. Garrett Sloan came on in the bottom of the ninth and retired the side in order.
