Reid's 22 Points Lift Falcons to 80-69 Road Win Over CBU

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Montevallo women's basketball improved to 8-9 in Gulf South Conference action after an 80-69 win over Christian Brothers on the road behind a 22-point performance from Ramie Reid.
 
Reid scored the second most points in her career on 7-of-10 shooting and 8-of-10 from the stripe while grabbing seven rebounds. Jerrilyn Richardson recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds while Elisa Saffold finished with 14 points.
 
Christian Brothers jumped out to a 4-0 lead before Jerrilyn Richardson knocked down a three for the Falcons first points of the day. Richardson then gave the Falcons the lead with a pair of free throws before the two sides traded buckets over the next three minutes. The Lady Bucs ended the first quarter on a 9-2 run to take an 18-10 lead after the first ten minutes.
 
Savannah Cook opened the second quarter scoring for the Falcons with a three from the top of the key before the Bucs went on a 7-0 run to go out in front 27-13. At the 5:43 mark, Anna Katherine Eastman nailed another Falcons triple to end the run. Over the next minute, CBU would stretch its lead to 30-18 before Ramie Reid scored six straight for the Falcons with a pair of finishes at the rim and a 15-foot jumper to cut the lead to 32-24. A deep three from Richardson pulled the Falcons within six before Cook's seconds three of the day sent the game to the half with the Falcons trailing 33-30.
 
Out of the break, CBU extended its lead to 37-32 before an Elisa Saffold triple cut the lead down to two at the 7:57 mark. Just a minute later, Saffold knocked down another to cut the lead down to one before Aubrey Sorrells gave Montevallo its first lead since the 5:07 mark of the first quarter at 40-39. Saffold's third triple of the quarter gave Montevallo a four-point lead before the Lady Bucs cut the lead down to 50-49 with just 1:11 left in the third. CBU beat the buzzer at the end of the quarter to head into the fourth with the Falcons on top, 54-53.
 
Reid continued her strong performance with a finish at the rim to answer a CBU bucket and keep the Falcons out in front by four, 58-54. Reid added a pair of free throws before the Lady Bucs used a three pointer to cut the lead down to 60-57 with 5:48 to play. Reid added four-straight free throws before nailing a jumper in the paint to give Montevallo a 65-57 lead and eclipse 20 points on the day. Lia Edwards capped a 7-0 Montevallo run that saw the Falcons take a double-digit lead before Reid gave UM its largest lead of the day at 69-58 with 2:20 left. Montevallo would sink 11 free throws down the stretch to keep the Lady Bucs at bay and take the 80-69 win.

  • Reid's 22 points are the second most in the sophomore's career on a team-high 7-for-10 shooting and 8-of-10 from the stripe to go along with seven boards.
  • Richardson tallied her first double-double in a Montevallo uniform on 11 points and 11 rebounds.
  • Saffold finished with 14 points on 3-of-9 shooting to pair with five rebounds.
  • Montevallo shot the ball well with a 44.7-percent clip from the floor and a 42.9-percent mark from deep while holding CBU to just 39.3 percent.
  • The Falcons won the rebounding battle 44-31 with Montevallo taking a 15-13 lead on the offensive glass.
  • Montevallo's bench provided much needed scoring with 30 points off the Falcon bench.
