Baseball Set For Midweek Against Miles

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo baseball team takes on Miles College on Wednesday, Mar. 19 at 2:00 p.m. CT at Kermit A. Johnson Field at Bob Riesener Stadium.

The Falcons are coming of a Gulf South Conference series loss to West Alabama. UM won the first game behind another dominate outing by Adiel Melendez where he struck out career-high nine batters. The Falcons would fall in the final two games to their in-state rivals.

About Montevallo
At the dish, the Falcons have improved their team batting average to .292. The team has strung together 15 consecutive games with 8 or more hits including 12 games with double digit hits. Jacob Pearl has given the Falcon offense a boast as he carried a nine-game hitting streak snapped by West Alabama in game three of the series. During the streak, Pearl collected 14 hits including four multi-hit efforts. The freshman from Madison, Alabama drove in seven RBI during that stretch.
 
Connor Crowson is hitting a GSC-leading and an absurd .436 in 110 at bats this season. Crowson leads the conference with 48 hits, 83 total bases and a .755 slugging percentage. He is also top-10 in the GSC in OPS, runs, doubles, home runs, RBI and on base percentage. McGwire Turner continues to be an on base machine as he has been on base in every game this season and holds the longest hitting streak on the team at 18 games. Turner has 11 multi-hit games this season and 4 multi-RBI games. He is 11th in the GSC with a .386 batting average, 4th in hits with 39 and 10th with 56 total bases.
 
The Falcons are fourth in the conference with a .291 batting average. They continue to lead with 31 home runs but West Alabama has closed the gap as they trail UM by one with 30 in 2025. The team is second with 387 total bases and third with a slugging percentage of .443. On the bump, the Falcons have the second most punchouts in the league with 201. They only trail the leading Choctaws by four. The Falcons have had success at home as they are 20-0 against the Golden Bears. They did not square off against Miles at home last season, but defeated the Golden Bears at home in 2023, 15-3.
 
Scouting Miles
The Golden Bears will come into Wednesday's meeting with a 15-8-1 record including a 10-3 record inside the SIAC.  Miles split their most recent series against Spring Hill where game one was canceled. MC won the first game of the double-header 5-4, but fell in game two 23-2.
 
The Golden Bears are seeking their first win against a GSC opponent this season as they are currently 0-3. Miles has lost two to West Alabama and one to Alabama-Huntsville. Against the Gulf South in the three games, Miles has allowed 10 or more runs each game. Camden Matthews leads Miles with a .400 batting average and has 16 hits on the season. Matthews also leads the pitching staff with six saves in 2025. Brandon Leroy leads the team with six home runs and he adds 19 RBI.
