Falcons Drop Series to Lee

CLEVELAND, TN. – The University of Montevallo baseball team is swept by the Lee Flames on Mar. 29 at Larry Carpenter Stadium at Olympic Field. The Falcons are now 17-17 and 9-12 inside the Gulf South. Lee improves to 20-14 and 12-9 in the GSC.

GAME ONE
Lee jumped ahead of the Falcons with two runs in the bottom of the first. The Flames took the lead on a double down the let field line. After the runner advanced on the throw home, the Flames picked up a second run on an RBI ground out.

With one out in the second inning, Luke Mitchell took the first pitch to work himself into a 1-0 count. He blasted the next pitch over the left field wall for his first homer of 2025. Matthew Bullard did a nice job in the bottom half to throw a zero on the board as he only allowed one base runner in the inning with a two out single. Bullard got every out via foul out.

After both teams went scoreless in the fourth, Montevallo tied the game with Connor Crowson's 11th home run of the season, the Falcons second homer of the game that came in a 1-0 count. The Flames took the lead in the bottom half as they scored two runs on a two out single through the left side of the infield.

The Falcons would knot things up in the sixth. Jacob Pearl led off the inning with his second homer of the year. With two down, Evan Radford on second and Luke Mitchell on first, Payton Stephenson lined a ball to left field to score Radford.

Lee immediately took the lead back with a three-run bottom of the sixth. A single up the middle scored two with one out and with two down, they scored the third run on an infield single.

UM came within two as McGwire Turner singled to right to score Easton Kleyn but the Lee bullpen was able to hold on to the 7-5 lead.
